Default Which Cats?

i wanna put my borla headers on now, and i would like to get cats installed at the same time to save money. i'm wonderin which ones do u guys think i should go with? also, i'll probly get a dyno to check my a/f, and also to see what power it thinks my car's makin. what should i b hopin for with a groundin kit, intake, pulley, headers, cats, and exhaust? i think, if it's not around 255-260, i might try a different set of headers. i just wanna see what the borlas do. expensive; i know . let me hear what u think though.

Definately go with the RT cats that Performance Nissan sells. When all is properly installed, the sound and power are awesome. I would definately put them on again. You may not have the problems that I had with the Borla. The shop that helped me were amazed by the cats and even called RT to confirm the performance gains and they were very impressed with the quality of the cats themselves. Everyone in the shop was looking at them and were anxious to see how they sounded and performed. Check out Performance Nissan and I think they offer my350z.com members a pretty nice price. I'm in love with them and not even looking back.

Oh yeah, about the lean issue with aftermarket cats.......my NISMO exhaust tips are already black on the bottom....definately not a sign of lean A/F.

Kinetix and Ultimate Racing are basically the same so you cant go wrong with either and the RT's have dyno's of proven gains also.

i think the biggest difference between them is the looks of the rt's. besides that, it comes down to which ones have the best fitment. and yeah, black exhaust tips, not lean .

All the cats mentioned I believe are stainless construction.

The Crawford cats, Ultimate cats, and my own kinetix cats are VERY similar and I believe that the converters themselves are all made by the same company.

The RT cats actually are unique in design, not just looks. I think they are a great product.

I don't think you can go wrong with anyones high flow cats, but the RT stands out from the pack because of its unique converter.

i agreed with what LSDunique said. Beside the RT cats, all other cats are the same in look and material. The main point is that what is the difference in power? Maybe 1 or 2 HP is the most. I went with kinetix cats because same material and build quality but $100 cheaper.

If there is one mod that is huge for our cars, it's the high flow cats. I may sell the R/T's and soon will offer the Kinetix as well. BUT, no matter what brand you buy of any high flow cat, you wont be disappointed. The power gain is incredible for the money spent!!!

I agree with Jeff, high flow cats are a must have. One issue for those of us who want our cake and eat it too so to speak, is the ability of a high flow cat to pass a sniffer test. The cat that can give us the best of both worlds, i.e. power gain AND passing emissions testing will be the winner here for the daily driver crowd living in states with smog checks.

Could not agree with you more... exhaust together with the cats = the sweetest sound known to mankind with power gains.

Wish I had a Performance-like tuner down the street ... mix-and-match with reliability and enthusiasm. Nothing better.

I went with Kinetix, partly for the price. I rather save that money and dump it into the exhaust, other than all on the cat.

Kinetix for me. The price is right, it's more stealth and I don't believe that there is a difference on the inner cat material. The RT's are pretty, but I don't crawl under the car except to change the oil. I used the price diff to help buy an exhaust.

Just got the RT cats installed. totally changed the car.
The car pulls harder. and sounds much LOUDER than when I just ran the NISMO exhaust CAI setup. once you pass 2500 RPM it sounds so deep. It roars.
I'd say my Z sounds more like a race car now

I have been researching cats on here for some time now. I have come to the conclusion that the Kinetix or UR cats are the best bang for the buck. I will decide between either of these two because of the many posts of the RT cats being raspy and causing vibrations. The RT's are pretty but just not worth the extra $$$ IMO.
