Default Custom Exhaust pricing.

Hi guys, sorry for posting this new thread, but search wasn't working today.

I went to my exhaust shop and they gave a few quotes on my upgrade. (prices include labor and using stock cats)

$900 for true dual catback with dual Megan mufflers (ti-tips).

$560 for a Magnaflow y-pipe back (stock style) with the canister muffler and dual ti tips.

$750 for a y-pipe back to dual DC sports mufflers. (looked like a 3.5" or 3")

I've only heard samples of the magnaflow, but no reference for the other 2. Any suggestions on which setup to go with would be appreciated.

Not sure if you are questioning pricing or looking for exhaust opinions here, so I will give both...
I'm not sure what is considered custom with the setups you have listed but I feel that the magnaflow will give you the best quality parts as well the lowest price.

To put the prices in perspective, I am about to get my exhaust custom made next week. I am supplying the muffler and tips and they are making a single exhaust from the cats back. It will go back into dual like the stock exhaust. It will be stainless steel aND I was quoted 600 for that. That may seem high but I have had 4 exhausts made by them and they do amazing work and it is well worth paying for the extra craftsmanship

Yah, sorry if it wasn't clear. These were the prices they gave me, so I would like to know (according to those prices), which is the best bang for the buck, and if can, which sounds the best, performs the best, etc. Kinda tough cause they do their own piping, and just use the branded parts for the muffler and back.

But I think the Magnaflow sounds good, I've seen a clip of the sound without resonators, so it might be just a lil quieter.

what size piping? are you NA? do you have stock cats? there are alot of factors that play in sound, power ect. If your going to get a custom exhaust, it will sound different than anything else. Prices seem fair barring the welds and material is good. IMO, if your stock, stay 2.5" and go true dual with HFC.

being in HI your prices are going to be higher no matter what. i have a buddy with a g35 (ls swapped) and the magnaflow mufflers sounds awesome on it.

i am not a fan of megan anything, so i would say with magnaflow or dc. i would go with the one with the least amount of restriction

They didn't say what size piping, but I'm assuming it will be stock size, the non-dual systems utilize the stock Y-pipe. and the true dual uses the stock cats. The only different diameters are the tips. They have 4" mufflers, but that's not really my thing.

Staying N/A, no mods other than the popcharger. Was going to go plenum spacer next, but the exhaust piping has alot of rust, so working on that first.

Yah, I know custom exhaust is difficult to gauge soundwise.

And the shop is the best on the island, they warranty their welds and fabrication. So I'm not "too" worried.

Regarding the HFC, I have to make sure it's legal here, we have some shitty laws in Hawaii. This is my daily, so need to pass safety.

HFC should still pass. I had no issues with mine. Double check the piping size. You will see alot more sound and gains from HFC then the exhaust, but the stock exhaust sucks, looks bad and is heavy, so your on the right track getting a new one fabbed. Go for the true dual! You may want to have resonators welded in as well since its a DD, you will probably want it quiet with less drone.

OK, I'll double check the hfc's, and will think about going true dual. Gotta ask pricing on resonators too.

I had the berk HFC with the HKS hi power true dual when I was NA and it was the best sounding exhaust combo out there IMO. I had test pipes and switched them to the HFC and couldnt be happier. They are a bit pricey but well worth it. Post up some pics with what you decide.

Im guessing youre talking about exhaust systems hawaii? (I used to live in HI but recently moved) youre better off buying an actual prefabbed system honestly. In hawaii unless you know someone good or the main person does it, they usually do birdshit welds as the workers are not trained at all. Its very hard to find a good exhaust shop at a reasonable price there. They won't do emissions so you will be able to pass with hfc. only thing theyre sticklers about on safety is bodykits, wheels and especially drop.

Yah, spoke with Rick at ESH, cool dude. Said to bring it in early if I wanted a good job on it. Makes sense.

Was worried about safety, not the emissions side, but the decibel side, not sure if they do db checks though. I'm only going a lil bit louder, so I think I'll be fine.

Even if I bought a prefabbed system, I'd still need to pay for the install and shipping, I can't diy it at home. I think ESH should be good, I can always bring it back to them if I have issues.

They will fix it if it breaks, but if they do shitty welds they wont fix it. I have had good and bad experiences. it just depends who works on it. I still prefer prefabbed or I would pay import dynamics to build a system for you from mandrel bends they buy vs crush bends that any exhaust shop in hawaii does for that pricing. They don't check DB but just a year ago before i left, they started implementing taking ipad pictures and sending them in for approval by the state for safety checks. they wont care about exhaust but will make you get recon for bodykits and definitely wheels and suspension.

I think ID is closed, nothing current comes up from search, but I'll look into it.

I think I have a grasp on recon, I'm sure my wheels should pass safety without need for recon. Not lowered and only have a small add-on lip.

Thanks for the tips! Mahalo
