I have one too, Yippee!! It was a freebie (X'mas gift) so I had to put it in, otherwise I would've kept my stock intake (modified stock). Anyways, I love the sound of it, and for the power, hmmmn... OMG! it's got killer sound.
I did some brainstorming cause I've read a lot of concern about hot air getting sucked in the filter. When the car is at idle or hi-revving it at a stop ( who drives like that?), then yes it's possible. For optimum efficiency, the Popcharger needs to be exposed to cool air and lots of it.
Solution? A secondary air inlet. The stock plastic air funnel serves as the primary air inlet. Here's the first pic..

I had to seal off the adjacent walls, patch up all the holes to contain the collected cool air, thus creating a hi-pressure cool air compartment.

 

You need to pay attention to this area under the primary air inlet. It's where the heat shield ends. There's enough gap to let hot air from the side of the radiator to escape and enter the filter. I sealed this area using 1/2" styrofoam sheet (remnants from packaging), cut and pieced together.

 

4" piping is constructed for cool air entering the bottom front grille to travel and re-directed to the secondary air inlet.

 

You also need to make a seal between the hood and the Popcharger. I used a self adhesive foam weatherstripping (Pepboys).

 

Air will be forced into the pipe creating sort of "Ram Air effect". Some of you will be quick on the gun and say... but that's not a ram air, a true ram is this and that.... too many bends, blah...blah...blah.. Give me a break All I did is expose the Popcharger to more cool air. Throttle response seems more noticeable. Is there more power? I don't know, no dyno test done and not about to either. Based on the theory behind it, you guys figure it out. Anyways, like it or not,it's my mod. Enjoy...

I actually think that's pretty smart. You're getting all the cold air from the ground, which a full cold air intake is for, but you're filter is at the ram air area, so you don't worry about sucking up water and such. Plus it looks pretty nifty. Take a picture from futher away so we can see the entire grill..

Actually, as I had my fender liners off this afternoon putting in bulbs, I looked up from the bottom and said, hmm, this would be a great place to add something to supplement the Popcharger. Haha! It's really weird you posted this right after I come in from the garage. Good job man. The only thing I would have attempted differently is making the inlet in front less conspicuous. I guess I will go for it someday when I have time.

 

I think it's pretty neat but an awful lot of work if it doesn't really give you any gains. Not saying that it won't, just saying IF it doesn't. Nice work though.

 

one would probably need the mounting space in the grill for front brake cooling ducts which would benefit the car more than giving the intake a maybe gain.

Sure, that would be a good idea. You can run a cooling duct for the driver side brake but not for the passenger side. If you have taken your bumper off, you will see what I mean.
