Default VW's & permanent (oiled) air filters

I've had two mechanics tell me that Volkswagens don't along well with oiled air filters (such as K&N) because they suck oil through to the MAF sensor, clogging it. Is this true?

can be true for any car... but why are you asking a VW question on a 350z forum?
