Default Help with exhaust pricing and parts

Hey all, first post. Hopefully more to come!

Just want some things clarified with some potential tips.

Basically I done my MOT and the car failed terribly on emissions. I also found out my catalytic converters and my whole exhaust system is on its last leg. The MOT garage said it would probably cost about £1000 for parts.

Today I went to a different garage to give them a look at my car and I was quoted £4500 for the full exhaust replacement (inc. catalytic converters).
I'm aware parts may be a bit more difficult to find due to age of the car but that seems extremely pricey. On the breakdown the cats alone was almost £2000.

Meanwhile looking online at some aftermarket high flow cats, they go for roughly £450. (Also heard 370z cats work on HR 350z but I'm not sure.)
From what I've read high flows should pass an MOT if you give your car a good drive before sending it into the garage.

Lastly, I know the cats are different for DE and HR model, but is the rest of the exhaust the same, or is it universal?

Would it be ok if someone could help clear these things up for me, also any recommended sites for exhaust parts?

[I got an 07 HR.]

Thank you.

The main differences for aftermarket purposes will be the headers and cats. The HR Y pipe is different from factory but any aftermarket exhaust will bolt up the cats. I am assuming the MOT is like a sniffer test? If that's the case just get some HFC with a high cell count as you are technically replacing 4 cats with 2. I've had 2 brands of HFC and they weren't even close, the high cell count smell really close to OEM as opposed to the low cell count where you could smell raw exhaust still.
if you are wanting to run full aftermarket a nice combo would be Berk HFC and Invidia cat-back, not too expensive or you can try to find a used cat-back. Either way I recommend the Berk HFC I love mine.

Thanks for the response. Looking into those pieces it does seem a lot more reasonable. Looks roughly £1500ish.

When hearing about exhaust I acknowledged I was gonna have to spend 4 figures, but £4500 seemed absolutely insane.

In terms of the Berk cats, I assume before MOT testing I just go out for a 45 minute drive to get them warmed up?

Thanks!

That should be enough, just go for some spirited driving and make sure they get nice and warm.
