Thanks for being truthful about your experience.
I overtightened the crap out of it. I was locking that baby down, like an idiot.

Um.. isn't this plenum a NA only plenum with nitrous? I thought they were developing a separate FI plenum as well?

You just answered your own question. How can anyone see it or buy it if it's in development?

Question ECU Reset

FLY BY Z,

When you say you reset the ECU, do you mean that you actually go through the ECU reset procedure, or you just pull the negative battery terminal for a while? The reason I ask is that if you go through the actual reset procedure, how do you know if it worked if the CEL is not on?? I have tried several times to reset my ECU after mods, but could never tell if it worked.

Just curious

I know it works because the CEL flashes appropriatley during the procedure to let me know I am doing something. As far as doing the procedure correctly, that lets me know that I am. Whether or not reseting the ECU is something that matters can only be based on logic that the procedure exists so it must do something. It only takes 25 seconds so it isn't a whole lot of wasted effort if it is pointless...

We include some good threadlock for all the bolts that hold the main flange down because they require very little torque to install correctly due to the nice soft gasket we supply.

As soon as the flange is pulled down when tightening, dont wait until the plastic starts to compress because then it is too tight!! just make sure to use the threadlock, and I wouldnt run it for about a half hour so the threadlock has time to set in.
What about using some aluminum sleeves to keep the plastic from compressing? Is there enough clearance in the existing holes or would they need to be reamed out?

Can't find the pictures now, but on one of the pre-production versions it looked like they had brass sleeves there. Is this still the case? Why were they removed if not?

How about a simple torque rating for tightening the plenum down.
Im sure most of us have or have access to a torque wrench.

we are working on getting a torque figure that we can publish for everyone. look for that some time next week probably.

The brass inserts are threaded inserts for the engine cover and for a bracket that bolts on in the rear.

We have put some thought into the sleeves, but think a torque rating would be easiest and most cost effective.

Hopefully there will be, but if not the thread posted by all_bark on 02-20-2004 and FLY BY Z on 02-20-2004 provided some pretty good do's and don'ts. My thanks to both!

Unhappy No Instructions

I just got my Plenum and Cats yesterday, but there are no installation instructions for either in the box.
Not such a big deal though. I'm sure I can find out a "general" cat install somewhere (how different can they be), and I was there when all_bark installed the prototype Plenum, so I saw what needed to be done... and not done ;-)

I'll be taking pictures and making some sort of "step by step" install instructions for both the Plenum and Cats and posting it on my website. I'll add the link to my signiture once they are up there.

We are working on some official instructions with some tips and torque figures, we just havent finalized anything yet.

Just take your time, and I am sure you will be fine.

Ok, I just finished the plenum install and there were a few surprises and also a couple modifications that needed to be done in order to complete the install.

With that said.. it runs and sounds AWESOME!!!

I took lots of pictures of the entire install process and will be constructing a webpage with the pics and install instructions as soon as I go grab a bite to eat, and some 9mm rounds for the SoCal 350Z meet tomorrow at Twisted's place. I'd like to also try to install the cats too, but I'll have to wait till the car cools down so I'll work on the install instruction site in the meantime. It should take me about an hour. I'll start a new thread once It's done and uploaded.
