Video/soundclip of Tim's Z w/Test Pipes
The guys making the video say it is an LT1, so did the kid driving the car, but he also claimed to putting out 350 hp at the crank, really does not matter to me, just posting sound clip. This was just an ideal situation to get my hands on the sound clip, video is a bonus.
Tim,
do the test pipes + nismo exhaust create any raspiness? how much louder/deeper is that setup compared to stock exhaust?
I would like an exhaust setup that will have a noticeable difference in sound but also something that sounds clean. I also tend to like the look of an exhaust like the nismo or stock look rather than cans.
thanks
Rajiv

webcarconnection would rape these stock ls1s.
i was suppose to race my friends automatic LT1 but he crashed it before i could. now hes got an auto 01 SS with 315/35 drag radials and i should be getting 6spd (froma a 5at) 350 next month. considering how much ive heard about the power of ls1s, i think i might wait till i break it in, become a pro at driving stick (like webcarconnection ~werent you the one who ran a 13.6 with just a cai?), and for his tires to wear out a little.
Tim, thanks for the video. Sounds pretty nice considering your running catless, I figure its the cams that make up for it?

I don't know if you were asking me if I ran a 13.6 with just a CAI, but if you were I was not the one, I have yet to get any timed 1/4 mile passes yet, all we have locally is a 1,000 foot strip, the closest 1/4 is in Memphis, TN., about a 2 hour drive.
As far as exhaust being raspy, it has a little raspiness to it while it is sitting still, but under load it sounds real similar to a Ferrari Modena, or in everyday terms, like a bunch of angry hornets in a 50 gallon drum.

Tim'sZ,
I would not say I'm a GM fan, as I've never owned any GM other than a 1979 Monte Carlo for about 6 months back in the early 90's. I have never owned a Camaro or Firebird, but I do know what they can do and I did own a 2001 Mustang Cobra and I did mod it. Needless to say I've raced plenty of LS1/LT1 Z28s and LS1/LT1 TAs (no WS6 or SS's though).
I do not doubt that you did and could beat a LT1 TA as seen in the video, seeing is believing. I was just saying there is no 2001 LT1 TA, and there's no way that was a 2001 TA with a LS1 in it unless the guy can't drive at all. Whereas with your mods beating a LT1 is believable beating a LS1 is not unless it was driver error or something was wrong with his car.
You said your car has dynoed at 268 rwhp and I think that's great, but the LS1 TA is heavily underrated with a bhp of 320 but realistically the bhp is the same as the Corvette 350. People with LS1 TAs and Camaros have dynoed their cars stock and some are putting down almost 320hp to the wheels.
If you think the weight difference between a 350z (3,085 lbs.) and a 01 TA (3,494 lbs) will allow you to make up nearly 50 rwhp you are doing your math wrong.
I have no doubt you beat a LT1 TA, and yes I did lose to a LS1 TA in my "stock" Z. But I didn't just lose I got eaten alive, I'm talking buslengths here lol.
To beat a LS1 TA you are gonna need just a bit more power I think, once again no offense intended.

"Whereas with your mods beating a LT1 is believable"
Without ANY mods at all it is believable that he beat an LT1, as I did...
Also, a lot of people I know with LS1 camaros dynoed at 298-300 RWHP stock.

Well, I can comment on the sound of Tim's car, as I have driven it a few times pre-cams. Sound is a thing that is in the eye of the beholder. For me, it is a bit on the loud side, but I will say that it is not that loud, until you get on it. The raspiness is there with any test pipes, so you know what you get there.
As for the race, I can't get the video to run for me, but I do know Tim is an above average driver with loads of track experience. Whoever the guy is that he ran against could lose that race just for being an average driver. If it is a driver's race, my bet is Tim won that on driving skills alone.
Alot of times, young guys lie about what year their car is and what it has under the hood. Don't know what the case is here, but you never know.

Z2K3, no offense was taken, I understand your questioning of the outcome and what actual motor this kid had in his TA, I really had no business street racing and my intentions were to go watch the others race but unfortunately I got sucked in to the moment. This kid was probably 19 or 20 and we all know how some people can get carried away with the boasting of their vehicles and what they have. As Little Rod stated, I been autocrossin for 6 years and I consider myself a pretty skilled driver so I am pretty good about leaving the line. The TA did have me through 2nd gear and he was running an automatic but when I hit 3rd and 4th I started pulling him pretty good and of course the outcome was a full car length, seemed that the TA was running out of juice and the Z was coming alive. Who knows. I hope to go to Memphis and get some good 1/4 mile times to post on the website, unfortuntely Memphis is 2 1/2 hours away and the only track we have locally in a 1000 ft. I have thought about purchasing the new GT2 and see what kind of times I can get from it, they seem to be getting pretty good reviews on their accuracy.
Was it you that chriped 4th or was it the TA?
Ls1 > vq35 > lt1
automatic SS's (LS1) run high 13s and the manuals run low 13s. the 350 runs high 13s manual and the autmatic runs low 14s. (these are the best times ive seen for both cars). so why does everyone keep saying we'd get killed by so much?
