Default HELP! I need to take the lower plenum off

Hey guys,

I really need to take my lower plenum off. I know that there are bolts inside the plenum, plus one bolt in the front to the block, and 1 in the back to the block, plus one hose going coming off the front.

What else do I need to know before taking off this lower plenum.

Thanks.

As long as you have carefully located all the bolts/screws, you're all set. Just remember that the rear hose is connected to your fuel rails, so it's a good idea to carefully lift and move your fuel rails towards the front passenger headlight area. Also, the long bolts in the center of the plenum hold another gasket, so you may also want to excersice caution in trying not to bending it (gasket).

Hmm, let me see what else I can remember....

The only other thing I can remember, is that you may want another person pulling the plenum upwards from behind while you pull it from the front of the car. Although you may have removed all bolts, it will still feel like there's something holding it back, but obviously there's not.

Hope that helps.

P.S.
Why are you removing it? Did you forget something when the plenum was opened and it got sucked in?

Ok, Fuel rails? If I remove this hose, what happens? Can you
explain some more?

Yeah, I think something got sucked into my engine, but I really feel that I can't (shouldn't) elaborate right now.

Thanks for any help, though.

LoL...

Don't feel bad. Don't know if this helps, but we had a Z towed in last week for the same reason. Apperantly, they had the upper stock plenum polished. Being that the car was down, they decided to put paper on the intake openings in order to avoid any debris or anything else fallin in, but forgot to take the paper out before the upper plenum was re-installed. So when they started the car... chilli-ching-bang-bang.

We had to take the plenums off, all the way to the valve openings, where we saw the paper wraped around the valves.

Anyway, yes, the fuel rails (one piece, looks like a long horse-shoe) are still connected to the engine by other components. If you're just going to take a look at the valves (which is what I believe you're going to do), you need to carefully pop-out each fuel injector (I forgot to mention this earlier).

The injectors are purple in color and simply pop-out by pullin upwards with a little force. You may try to slightly twist them when pulling. Once these are out, the fuel rail can simply be lifted. However, you will find that you can not move them totally out of the way. They can, however be moved to the passenger side, and be pulled towards the front of the car.

Mind you, this is of what I can remember, it's not every day that I take the top portion of the 350z engine off.

If you get stuck, or have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I'm sure I will remember more.

ahh yeah, I almost forgot to answer your initial question.

If you pull the hose of the fuel rail, nothing really happens. You may still have some gas, but not a lot to worry about. Remember, its not an old Chevy, which means you wont have tons of gas squirting out of control.

You may try to have a napkin or towl ready for the fuel hose, but will eventually not need it.

Also, when you instal the fuel injectors, make sure you completely push them all the way in BEFORE screwing the fuel rails in place.

Thanks alot.
It was actually fairly easy. I got down to the valves. I was kind of nervous about the injectors, but i got them out ok.
Now onto other problems.
Thanks.
