How difficult was it to remove the material? Do you still have the O2 sensors in the pipes? If so, are you receiving a CEL?

it was a PITA to remove the material ( it just bends around in their and will not break appart ) and I have not had a CEL yet but I have only put 100 miles on the car so far. and yes i retained the 02 sensor. i had a raspyness sound before at high rpms but now its not as noticable.

fuel on cats being RT / Ken... / Cra... / or STOCK WILL Mess them up...
Jason,

What kind of time period are we talking about to damage the cats by revving the engine cold? Once or twice, or are we talking about A LOT of times? I ask because I have the Kinetix cats and I don't know if this is what's going on with mine, but I have revved my engine only about twice for people to hear the Kinetix Plenum and it seems like now my car doesn't have the same "get up and go" that it did. It could be all in my head, but it just doesn't feel as peppy. Does that sound like damaged cats, or would the damage cause the car to totally bog down?

welll ... i have stil never posted on my full expereince with what happend with my cats...

but... fuel on the cats is fuel... it all depends on how you drive and how much you get on them... when we did jeff's new cams... the tech accidently put one cam in 180 degree's out and we just ended up dumping fuel out into the exhaust... of course it went through the cats... but his are still fine rite now...

what happend with me... and unfortunatly i didnt get a photo before we started hacking them into test pipes... but.. my drivers side cat blew out... smacked the O2 sensor (which is still perfectly fine) and blew the cat into the muffler of my nismo exhaust... it plugged up the exhaust... and under accleration you just heard a loud WINEING sound... when you went behind the car, you couldnt feel any exhaust coming out of the tips... it plugged up my muffler... car would barely accelerate... a friend of mine in a stock 350z was following me and he was on my *** the whole time no matter how hard i was flooring it... it was not fun at all...

but... i had my cats on there for over 15000 miles with no problems... just revving the flywheel nailing the rev limiter and backfiring just killed my cats...

we have cars with super chargers and the RT Cats and they are still perfect on their cars...

I will be inspecting my RT cats periodically. Since I'm running very rich at WOT, this could result in reduced life of the RT cat. under cruising conditions, I am running just fine though...

hi matt,

thanks. unfortunately, I did rev quite a bit until I had
time to take out the o2 sensor. I definitely felt a lose
of power.

looking through the o2 port, I can see that the inner
circle had broken off and flew downsteam. It took
out the head of the o2 sensor and then wedged itself
at the port. the material is in shiny metal condition.
I don't know what it would look like burnt.

I'm going this weekend to have the cats removed so
I should have a better idea of what happened.

I ran the car at very low rpm's when i knew something was wrong and my mechanic checked the car thoroughly and it showed no signs of the catalyist making its way back in the engine. He also said it would be very doubtfull that the kind of material that random tech. uses would make it back in the motor because the material does not break into a fine dust ( that could cause oil consumpsion if sucked back into the motor.) like other kinds of catalyist material.

I bought mine for the same price about 5k miles ago, I want to say Oct maybe sooner but anyways I got the good price too and I haven't had this problem so it's not all the cats that are effected.

I am also very **** about warming my car and compressor up before even putting it into drive.

I would make mine test pipes too if it happened though.

I heard that rt doesnt make the cats. They are outsourced. Supposedly all RT does is weld the flanges on so the cats fit our cars!.

Isnt it strange that all of the RT cat failures are on the driver side cat only? Nobody has any damage to the passenger side cat.

Can someone confirm or explain why its only driver side that is failing?

I agree with Performance Nissan on this issue. 400plus cats sold...just by one vendor, and only a handful of confirmed failures. That is like a 1% failure rate....I'll take my chances. i dont wanna go crawford or kenetics, becuase they flow significantly less than the RT, as shown by Cheston's flow bench testing.

5000 miles on my RT cats, and no problems whatsoever... they sound as sweet as the first day I put them on Best HP gain from any mod so far.

interesting how they try to make an excuse that points the finger at the customer. it definitely appears to be a manufacturing defect since i have not heard of one crawford or kinetix or oem break up...
