Default Should I modify my AEM CAI to a WAI for Plenum?

I have heard allot of talk and opinions about how a WAI (like the Pop charger) works much better with a plenum then the long tube CAI style intakes. I currently have the AEM CAI and alot of people say its long length hinders the usefulness of the plenum.

So I was thinking of hacking off the better part of the AEM tube and effectively turning it into a short RAM intake and slapping on the filter element.

Would this be worth it? I wouldn't have a heat shield... Anybody actually have any conclusive evidence that the short ram is really better with a plenum?

I would like to hear a few opinions..

i would install the plenum, and give it a week or so for the ecu to learn... then see how it feels. then modify your intake tube in a way that you can change it back to a CAI later if you don't like it better, see how that feels.

try it for yourself. post results.

Ya thats what I was thinking.. I havn't taken a look at the actual intake recently and planned my attack to make the modification yet.

I was thinking I was going to have to hacksaw off the lower tube after planning out the best location\fit for the filter. I gotta look at it again and see if I can just disconnect a portion of the tube midway and clamp the filter on at a diffrent point without destroying the tube.

I have read threw most of that awhile back. The thing that makes this a bit inconclusive is the fact that you managed 3mph+ with the AEM but showed no improvement on the Dyno which is conflicting.

I would LOVE to see you do back to back runs with the pop and the AEM

But either way as an engineer I can see it makes perfect sense from a technical point of view that a shorter intake would be more responsive since there is less stagnant air in the tube that will need to be accelerated into the engine. Also the greater distance and bends create extra drag once it gets moving.

Also I am not crazy about the location anyway, it collects dust and dirt quickly and that well doesn't have that much air flow.
