Crawford Plenum just installed!!
Hey All,
I just installed my new Crawford plenum and strut bar last night and wanted to share some impressions and info.
- First the plenum and strut bar installed easily and looked great!
- Second, for all who think they can't fit their engine covers around, the plenum and strut bar, it is possible. With about an hour spent with the sanding attachment on my Dremmel Tool I was able to carve out the back edge to fit around the plenum, and also cut deep grooves for the strut bar. It took a while but it fit! I'll have to borrow a digital cam to get you all pics.
- Third, I had a "custom" cold air intake that was basically a K&N X-Treme flo cone filter and about 3 feet of hi temp Flex Hose. I took the car for a drive after it was all together and was disappointed to not see a noticable difference in performance. So I got home, tore out all the flex hose extension, clamped filter to a short piece of 3" aluminum tubing and then clamped it to the MAF.
In case you are wondering, I bought a used MAF housing from a junk yard for $25 and cut the front off of it where it bolts to the stock air box. That way I can use a 3" i/d rubber gutter clamp I bought for Lowes to attach the intake.
Took the car out for a spin and the diffrence was HUGE! With the shorter, more direct intake path, the plenum really proved it's worth! I am very happy with the results. Now I'm gonna just fab up a heat shield to keep the filter cooler.
Just thought I'd give you all my 2 cents.
