I just installed my new injen exhaust two days ago and i noticed a weird sound when i start off at low rpm's. It sounds like a little rattling vibration noise but only for about a second or two until i get up into higher revs. It Only happens at the low revs. Does anyone else have this sound? Im going to spray some WD40 on some of the bolts just in case its because they were new bolts and stuff that are making the noise
didnt know this was a problem for the new straight tip.
but the problem your having is either the resonators rattling on the lower crossmember, or the resonators rattling against each other.
loosen all the bolts, and place a thin spacer between the cross member and exhaust, as well as one between the resonators if they appear close(not sure how close they are on the straight tip).
then retighten all the bolts, and remove the spacers.
should take care of it.

By crossmember are you referring to the bracket connecting the two pipes that says SES on it? ill try to put rubber spacers in there and see if it helps. did you have this problem too except on the angle tip?
hm i got this sound too....its not the raspiness.....this other sound is like metal banging or vibrating against metal. When the shop installed my exhaust they pointed out that the two pipes get really close to the crossmember or whatever that X-shaped metal piece is. I think my exhaust is rubbing against it. I suggested that they put some rubber in between the pipe and exhaust but they said it would just melt. any solutions? btw i have the greddy evo2 exhaust.
exact same thing for me, I just havent had time(or drive) to jack it up to fix it.
its not rasp or gaskets vibrating or any of that that seems to be oh so common in other exhaust, by 2-3000RPM its mostly gone as the vibrations smooth out. at idle its the worst due to the slow low frequency rattling.
it is the x shaped cross member brace thingy that is located under the exhaust, it was there before the exhaust, its part of the car. if you prop it up before tightinging everything, when you remove the shim, it should remain suspended.
another option Ive heard, use spacers to lower the brace a little and move the brace away from the exhaust, this sounds a little iffy to me.

Yeah its not the raspiness sound that im talking about, although, im getting my kinetix test pipes in next week, and i guess ill find out what that raspiness is, but does anyone have any ideas to stop both the raspiness that i might get, or the metallic vibration noise???
i have been getting this same "tapping" noise at low rpm's as well. im going to take a better look at it when i change my brakes. it only taps 3-4 times sometimes when im taking off in first. it seems to be coming from the passengers side near the rear bumper????? i post whatever i find on here.
U kno i used to get that sound too. I'd only really notice it at idle, and it only happenned after I just retightened the exhaust. After like 2k miles tho, the sound went away. Now it only happens when I go over little dips or bumps in the road and it's definately the exhaust pipes hitting each other. I guess after a while they stopped rattling. It only happenned right after I retightened all the bolts

Ok, i found out that my exhaust is really close to the sway bar and is vibrating against it at low rpm's and whenever i hit bumps in the road. I figured out how to stop the vibrating noise by wrapping that area with Exhaust/Header heat wrap to supress the vibration and stop the noise. Hope this helps!
I'm really surprised that you guys are experiencing clearance problems with this exhaust. When I installed mine I had the rear wheels up on ramps and the front up on jack stands - the car was level, as though it were sitting on the ground on all fours. That gave me the proper orientation to install the exhaust with the proper clearance all around. None of the pipes are any where close to hitting each other, the crossmember or anything else. I also came from the Mustang crowd and was so surprised at how easy it was to install this exhaust on the Z compared to the couple of Mustangs I put exhausts on - there is no room for error on the Mustangs.
Bottom line - if you have pipes rubbing up against each other or on the crossmember or whatever, then I suspect you just need to adjust your installation.
This is the most awesome exhaust. I give it a two-thumbs up for anyone considering a new exhaust.
Good luck guys.

I installed mine the same as Billitt13, and I don't have any problems. When I installed mine I had my friend push up on all the pipes when I was tightening the bolts, this way I would have a bit more clearence.
Hope you guys figure out whats wrong.

"When I installed mine I had my friend push up on all the pipes when I was tightening the bolts"
this is all that any of us need to do to solve the problem; but if you alone, thats not so easy. so you end up resting the pipes on the cross member while you tighten them, this causes a problem.

You can get a jack with a 2x4, rap a towel around the 2x4 so you don't scratch the pipes, and jack it up a little. Then tighten the bolts. This will also allow you to hold up both pipes making them level, and possibly make the alignment easier. (That’s if you have to install it alone.) I know its much more work but it may work.
my car was making a clanging noise over rough roads and bumps, so i had nissan check it out at my 15k service and it was because the injen was lying too close to a support beam on the passenger side. i took it back to the place i got it installed and they brought it up a bit. the clangings gone now.
does anyone else hear a sputtering sound when your outside the car and someone revs it up? i cant hear it when im in the car.
