cf isnt THAT strong. its strong, but its extremely brittle, its strength is pretty specific to a certain direction, it doesnt flex at all.

I also dont know how they would do the tube shape up top or any of that in CF. itd be intricate and expensive to say the least.

ares...

they make motorcycle rims out of the stuff..... tested at 200mph too...

granted there have been catastrophic failures (as with even the magnesium wheels i had), but still.... they weigh like 4lbs a piece (without hardware)

maybe the plenum could be made of CF with magnesium bracing?? (could be less than 1lb for sure)

not saying it isnt possible, just saying your looking at 1-2grand here. and the market for such a peice at that price to get still 5-10hp tops is limited to say the least. not worth saving the weight, its aluminum already. and appearance, its a bit pricey for just appearance.

gotcha.....

to back up that estimate, my magnesium wheels were over 2k (for the bike) and the CF versions wer over 4K.....

i still think the crawford is the best aftermkt attempt to date... but wonder WHY no other company has attacked this (remembering back to the 5.0l days and the numerous, cost effective, intakes on the market)

not enough to justify buying a 2k plenum for weight savings

I would say it's because the car is 2 years old...

The last generation of Mustang lastest in variations from 1980-2004 IIRC. The 4.9L days were pretty long as well.

Someone will know more than me, but I know the previous Maxima with the 225 or so HP used a 3.0L VQ (MY2000 or 2001?). The Pathfinder has it right now too.

I was thinking about it and anyone thinking about this should sink all that R&D or purchasing dough into the Nismo heads with some mean cams because I guarantee that will make more power.

I think the Sentra uses the QR25 right now. The 300ZXs from the 80s had the VG30E and VG30ET (pulled both of these blocks out of cars... ugh) while the 300ZXs from the 90s used the VG30DE and VG30DETT. But I'm sure Nissans done stuff with the VQ that my limited knowledge doesn't cover.

CF is not brittle at all its the resin that makes it brittle, I'll do some research on which resin will be best suited for this kind of application. They use autoclave to make tube shape up top so its not time consuming. Can somebody lend me a kinetix V1V2V3 .j/k.

its coming, its coming. not enough info yet. its being drafted right now. then "print" out a prototype for flow testing.

what I can say is , there will be no company logo on it(not sure what design it will have yet).

Itll allow the use of OEM strut bar

and it sure as hell wont crack.

the rest is still pending.

oh also, if it cant be done for less than 450$, it wont happen. I dont forsee this to be a problem though.
