Default Stillen race pipes cracking near flange?

I heard a rumor that the Stillen race pipes developed a crack near the flange. Can anyone confirm this before I buy them?

thanks,
victor

Victor- I can confirm because it happened to one of the cars in our NorCal caravan at Willow Springs on Thurs. However this could be an isolated incident since this the first I've heard of troubles with the Stillen pipes.

I also heard that some guy brought his cracked headers (Z32) back to Stillen during the Stillen Tour.

I can definitely confirm that the Stillen headers are prone to crack around the flange. The problem is not poor design, it's poor workmanship. It is my understanding, whether right or wrong, that Stillen does not make these, they just sell them as one of their wonderful products. Criticizm aside, the Stillen headers are only welded around the inside of the exhaust tube where it attaches to the flange. On the back side, the tubes are just tack welded to the flange. The problem is that the inside weld is very thin and after a couple of good heat cycles can crack. SO.... The easy fix is to have someone tig weld the back side of the flange and fill in around the tack welds. If you have this done, there is very little chance that the headers will crack. I did the welding myself, but you can have it done at any local shop that does piece work. If you have any further questions, just pm me.
