What needed to install y-pipe?
I got a JIC Y-Pipe and am gonna install it today. I was just wondering what tools are needed for the install. I live on a 3rd floor apartment and am going to have to carry a y-pipe, jack, and 4 jack stands up and down the stairs and want to take as few tools as needed/possible. So, what tools do I need and how long should I expect this to take?
Here are the things I used besides the aforementioned jacks and ramps:
1. 3/8" or preferably a 1/2" drive socket set with a 3" extension (I forgot the exact sizes for the nuts though. 14mm?)
2. an adjustable/crescent wrench that may be needed to keep the bolt from twisting with the nut.
3. 18" breaker bar (Optional)
My ramps aren't that high so space underneath was a little tight. I had a problem breaking a couple of the nuts loose so the breaker bar came in pretty handy.
It's strictly bolt on so once you get it up on the ramps/jacks, it should take about 30 minutes.

Yeah, I got the exhaust put on pretty easily. It was raining the day before I put it on, so I went to an unoccupied apt complex to get under some cover to do the work. Right after I got the stock y-pipe off and was just about to put the JIC on, a b!tchy lady came and threatened to tow me. I politely asked if I could finish the install while my car was on jackstands and she threatened then to call the cops. So, needless to say, I put the car down and drove (with no y-pipe) to an exhaust shop to have them bolt the JIC up (cost $20).
I had no problems lining it up; fit perfectly. Well worth it, I can feel a small power gain and the car feels smoother because of the freer-flowing exhaust. I know I am running lean right now... I plan on dyno tuning it next week with a wideband o2.
The car sounded MEAN with no y-pipe. It sounded really really nice below 3krpm, but sounded ricer-ish above that. There was also a definite LOSS in power with the open exhaust. Hope I answered your questions and then some... lemme know if you wanna know anything else.
