I would love to see a dyno sheet of just the crawford headers, I have only seen sheets of the crawford headers with other mods. I think you may pick up a little more down low with the crawfords, but after that, there isnt much difference between the nismo's, topspeed, or dc sports vs. the crawfords. The crawford's look cool, but I havent seen any numbers from them, suggesting that they make a big difference compared to others. The suggestion is that they are the best for cammed cars, but even with the latest Crawford project car, which is running cams, the car only gained 9lbs of torque over stock with the headers.

The headers, much like the plenum... make their power in the upper RPM range.

For anyone that knows header design, short tubes vs. long tubes, one can easily look at the Crawfords and tell where the power band is going to be.

Phoenix,

Show me some charts!!!! The big thing always about the crawfords was that when mjedens switched out his nismos for the crawfords he gained a bunch of torque down low between 2000-3000 rpm. You actually were the one who posted this information. And I remember him saying that up top, they didnt make much difference. Do a search and look at your post! Actually, I do know header design, and Crawford has always advertised as having the longest primaries without replacing the cats, which would in turn put the torque lower in the rpm range, exactly were we have been seeing the gains.

I might be able to be persuaded into doing a pre and post Crawford header dyno run. I've currently got the mods in my sig which include, intake, plenum and cats and y-pipe. I'd be willing to do 2 sets of runs (with a/f ratio plots), this would run me ~$150. Anyone who wants can send me a PM and I'll reply with my paypal addy. If I can get half the money "donated" I'll spring for the other half and be the guinea pig and do pre and post dynos for you guys.

Any takers?

Ok that sounds pretty good, but if at the top end they "dont make much difference" from the NISMO headers, thats still 8-9 hp above stock, with twice the torque gains down low of any other set of headers i have seen. So Crawford is obviously making a difference somewhere if they can compete with the rest of the market.

Well neffster, i cant give the whole "half" but I will give you some of it if a few others were willing to help out. Maybe we should make a post dedicated to raising funds hehe

I had one that clearly showed the before and after on my car with just changing to the Crawford headers. Unfortunately, I think it went the way of the dodo bird when my PC crashed. I've been looking for it for days. I posted it on one of the 350Z sites long ago...

anyway, 287HP is right, the Crawfords give you gobs of power down low as any good equal length header should. My dynos showed 20-30ftlb torque gains from 2000-3500... after that, the gain is much less dramatic. I think at peak I was only seeing about 5hp and 5ftlbs gain. But the importance is area under the curve and the down low gains are phenomenal. It's not a slight difference... it's a very noticable difference that you can feel at low RPMs!

If you can afford the Crawfords, get them. If you have a weekend and the right tools to put them in, you can probably save a few $$s by installing them yourself.

I'd definitely choose them over the Stillen or Nismos.

Butt dyno showed the biggest gains for my TopSpeed headers over all of my other mods.

I love them and only paid $230. Brand new and ss.

If you are going to go and do something hard to install as headers are. You might as well get one that gains the most so you get your time's worth of installing the 2 pieces.

Spending little money but a lot of time for 1 hp and a signficant amount of torque doesn't seem worth it IMHO.

Spending more money right now and gaining a large amount of power and torque would make your time more worthy.

With that said...

On the same note as Wazowski has started... if you do headers and you don't already have hi-flow cats, get those at the same time.

And I have to agree with C5DEMON, the Crawford header upgrade was the biggest noticeable change in the car I did prior to supercharging it. It made the car sound and feel so much quicker.

The hi-flow cats come in second. I did them separately before the headers. The cats definitely made the car sound better and louder... not as noticeable of a power increase. The headers made the car sound even better and launch like a rocket!

alright ill do it. I will buy the crawfords. I have enough money, but I have a dilemma with mod choice. I want a stillen exhuast as well, but cant finance both. my service rep at the dealership said headers would not affect my warranty as long as I dont remove the cats, is this right? if so I will go ahead and get the crawfords, and next semester the exhaust.

I think you're okay on warranty as long as you run some kind (of effective) cats. I think what you're dealer might be implying is that they would not warranty if you run test pipes.

Might want to clarify with them, tho... this is one of those items that may vary from dealer to dealer.

I have a set of topspeed and for the money they look VERY NICE. I haven't installed them yet - car is in storage, so I have been taking my time - so I don't know about fitment issues, but I am not concerned. I just sent mine off to be coated, so for $430 (including shipping) I have a set of SS headers with jet-hot 2000 coating that have shown to have moderate to decent gains.

If I had unlimited funds, I would go with crawfords with the jet-hot 2000 coating, but instead, I will pocket the extra $1K and get the new crawford plenum and an ECU flash.

hydrazine posted his topspeed header dyno results here and on 350zmotoring. that guy is the mack-daddy of dyno interpretation!

zachrosen also posted his topspeed header dyno results here, but i don't remember the name of his thread. you can go to his profile and click on "view all posts". he was disappointed with his baseline dyno cuz he has lots of other mods, but the addition of the topspeeds made some decent gains over his baseline.

How much did you spend to ship yours to jethot? i paid $17 via ups from cali, so my total for the jethot was $203 for the 2000 coating, plus $17 to ship there, plus whatever they charged for return shipping (i can't remember).
