Hey guys,

I've been posting on this site for a couple weeks and see alot of posters discussing the miracle and the curse of aftermarket plenums. I seem alot of people saying they have leaks, cracks, etc. I'm kind of afraid of going out and buying the "wrong" brand. Which brand would you guys recommend? What causes the cracking, leaking, etc? A plenum is F/I complacent right? (It is something contributing to the HP/TQ level of a FI machine)

fir F/I crawford is the man to see I beleive. kinetix seeminly solved their cracking problems, but they still have some rubbing and fitment issues. however bigger than that, they have no center hold down, so Id be concerned for FI personally.

crawford requires an aftermarket strut bar, and is 200$ more expensive at very least.

 

If you don't mind giving up your original plenum then go for Crawford.
I have Junkinetix and the rubbing issues are a pain to deal with but I keep my original plenum.

 

Well, there isn't a 'best' anything, it's all opinionated. There are some more plenums coming out soon besides Crawford and Kinteix. APS is coming with a 'tall-boy' plenum which will require you to remove the strutbrace (they will probably have a replacement). And I believe I saw something about someone thinking about making a plenum like Kinetix's without the cracking.

 

The Original is still the best. Crawford

It is all personal preference and appearance. For me, it is Kinetix. I have had V1, V3 and now V4. They have solved their cracking issues. You get to keep your engine cover and stabilizer bar. Plus, if there is a time when there is a problem you still have your OEM plenum. Vortech SC, Kinetix V4 Plenum and 3000 miles. NO problems! Pic taken with V3 and before reinstalling stabilizer.

I choose the Crawford plenum for FI and the Top Secret plenum for F/I.

Keep in mind that a lot of people are NOT using their front strut bars in conjunction with the Kinetix V4 plenum because of rubbing issues. So then you ask, what's the point of their design then?

The V4 is still not a "perfect" fix IMHO. For the time it took for them to get to where they are now with the V4 plenum you would think that it would be perfect by now.

I've owned both... i sold my Crawford for a Kinetix and i love both of them very much... now the owner of my crawford is loving it.

Both have advantages and both have disadvantages but to say the Kinetix is junk is just plain stupid. I don't have any rubbing issues with the strutbar and the plenum i mean it's REALLY close but i'm not worried about it.

And i will hopefully be boosting the Kinetix plenum shortly.

 

It looks like Kinetix has some issues.
The first $350 gets mine.

 

I originally ordered the Kinetix, but decided on the Crawford before the Kinetix arrived. To most Z owners, there's positives & negatives to both - just decide on one & run with it! Gotta love the Crawford.......

So, how many hp is that stock plenum making for you, sitting on a shelf, gathering dust?

Yeah, you'll have it to put back on when the Kinetix cracks, but if you'd gone with a Crawford plenum, you wouldn't have to worry about having a spare plenum on hand.

 

It making about 0 hp but if the Junkinetix cracks, they will give me another one.
Yea, I have to admit after the fact that I probably should have gone with Crawford.
I'll just sell the darn thing on ebay and cut my losses.

 

Does anybody know about how much the APS plenum is? Maybe we can get a group buy on it. I need one.
