Default Taking muffler off

I took my muffler off this Sat with the help of a few friends.
They had the bright idea of doing this...so I said what the hell.
Suprisingly it didn't sound to bad....It gives me the sound I want
and the better throttle response. I am going to get new exhaust but for now having no muffler doesn't sound to bad.

Has anyone done this just to see what it sounds like.

It's more fun if you remove the cats and just run open headers. Of course your neighbors may not be too pleased...

^^^^Actually yes I did feel gains I am going to run a pipe straight off the existing exhaust pipe and either run the pipe through the original exhaust port or run it throught the bumper
and be a little different. I am going to put a plate so it doen't melt the bumper.

I will try to get a sound clip for you to hear

I did that a long time ago and replaced the muffler with a y-pipe with the original tips. Sounded mean as hell and awsome. No rasp, but I then took of my cats which was a bit too much and ended up getting the borla TD exhaust. Only thing that's a bummer is I do have some bad rasp from 3k-3.8k. It was louder than Borla TD with no cats. If I could go back to it, I would just for the way it sounded, everyone that heard it liked it

Everyone likes the sound so I might keep it the way it is now for awhile.

I will try to get a sound clip for everyone else to hear.

the stock muffler doesnt block all that much.. but... the stock y-pipe / resonator in the mid pipe... that is what blocks the sound of the exhaust...

i have though of making a pipe to go from my nismo mid-pipe and out the back of the car for track events...

Carter Thompson ran the entire One Lap of America / Car & Driver a few years back without any muffler.

open headers sounds sooooo mean. when i installed my test pipes i had to see what it sounded like. it was like midnight in my friends garage and i must have woke at least a few of the neighbors up. had to shut it down real quick though, since cops live next door to him.

I have been running this way now for about 1 year. Everything is stock just minus the heavy muffler. The sound is awsome, there's a little increase in top end power, saved about 30 pounds in the rear from the heavy muffler and its very easy/cheap. Some people don't know that the resonator act's a little like a muffler and filters out the bad raspy noise.

The dyno showed a loss of five hp on two cars when they ran without their mufflers.

Loss or five, or loss of weight... Hard to say if it's worth it.

Yeah, it does sound good thou! Ha!

You beat me to it. A buddy that worked at a shop here in Texas said they pulled the muffler off a 350z and dynoed it. This guy lost 7rwhp across the band.

It did sound good though.
