Exhaust leak...check the seals and how they mate...what happens many times is that when factories weld on the flanges, they do them at an angle and the result is that the metal is heated up so much that the flange also stays at that angle and does not line up properly.
If you really want to be sure, when the car is really cold, throw some water on the joints/flanges to see if the water bubbles...if that is the case there is your leak

Its going to be replaced in 2 days when they get the part in. also btw exhaust leaks are loud but when ure car sounds like an indy car check for missing bolts and missing pipe sections.

Holy **** . . . that's . . . . uhhh . . . that sucks.
And to bring an end to this thread, I bought these test pipes in question through his ebay auction, so we'll see what's going on. BUT, I do have a TT, so it may change a few of the conditions

I have the same hissing sound you mention, but only when letting off the gas and using some engine breaking.
Edit: I have the Stillen Test Pipes, Fujitsubo Y-Pipe, and Tanabe Exhaust.

ok nissan bought me a new exhaust now after mine fell opff around that turn. but yea when i had my test pipes it was a hissing noise when i let off the gas and it only occured between 3 and 2k rpms. test pipes were a noticable increase in power for me though and im going to put them back on my car soon, i cant stand the stock noise or lack thereof.

thats exactly what i have, the Helix test pipes on a stock exhaust. it makes it sound alot meaner and very unrefined. But personally i like it, it dosnt sound like a Honda or cheap mufflered car.

I've got non-resonated test pipes with a stock exhaust and I'm also getting the distinct hissing sound when I let off the gas. It doesn't bother me too much but if it's a leak then I'm worried that I might be losing some power.
I also get subtle hissing at low rpms in 6th gear (when I barely give it gas).
I tried applying exhaust sealant (that putty stuff) on all the test pipe flanges but I still get the hissing noise. I don't get it...
It seems as if the rasp is only present at partial throttle between 3,000-4,000 rpms. When I punch it, there's no rasp; it just sounds really pissed off!! I haven't decided if it's a good sound yet-we'll see...
Also, the other day I heard some dude punch his throttle in a 360 Modena on the freeway and it was the raspiest exhaust I've ever heard. Oh, and my co-worker just got a 2005 Boxster S and from 4,500-6,000 rpms it's raspier than my setup (but not louder). So we're not the only ones "buzzing" around out there...

i have posted about this before: like a little mini nitrous purge sound whenever i let off the gas ever since i installed my kinetix resonated test pipes, and a very smart member whose username i forget right now (chad) said it is normal with test pipes.
now that i know its normal, i love the sound.
