Stock is best, use either 15208-9E000, or 15208-65F00 both works fine, cant go wrong with Genuine Nissan Parts.

"Stock is best"??? I don't know about that.
"can't go wrong with Nissan"...you're probably right, but can we do better?

All filters are not created equal. I don't know who makes the Nissan filters...don't really care until I see data revealing the Nissan filter's performance. I do however have data for several filters that were probably not part of a price war to get a lucrative long term contract from Nissan.

Is there a difference among filters?...absolutely. Can you tell the good from the bad?...only by testing (analyze your oil, or find the filter test reports done by independent labs).

Are filters worth an extra $10 every 3000 miles?...to me it's worth the extra $600 every 200,000 miles that my engine will run (I hope).

When you think about oil filters, think about this: every moment your engine moves, it generates metal particles, the more metal you have in your oil, the more particles it generates. The more particles you collect, the fewer particles are generated.

Please don't believe anything you read on some forum by a guy you don't know (referring to myself). Do your own research...find the independent data, it's out there and it's very interesting reading.

My last several cars (3 of us have cars in my family) have all lasted over 200,000 with filters costing $5. A couple were used cars with 60k+ miles when we bought them and I don't know what filters were used prior to buying them.

Keeping the oil clean and driving with some common sense is essential to keeping an engine running. i.e changing the oil at recommended intervals, not running out of oil, not racing all of the time, letting the oil circulate for a few minutes after starting, probably has much more of an effect on longevity than the particular brand of filter.

I agree with bwilliams about using common sense and 'doing the research' before making drastic changes. Because 'research' about oil filters is hard to come by, common sense tells me that standard filters by well known manufacturers work well enough. Common sense does not lead me to think that a $25. oil filter will make a difference.

Did anyone else notice the successful class action suit against Mobil. They advertized many different grades of oil and talked about each oil having a specific application. In actual fact the oil was the same, the bottles and advertizing were different. Didn't apply to Mobil1 synthetic however.

To contradict myself, I did switch to K&N air filters based on the claim that they filter the air better than a paper filter....ignored my own common sense when it suits my purposes

Yes, a prerequisit to all this engine longevity discussion is that the oil and filter is changed at frequent intervals. If this is not done, it's pointless to talk about this filter vs that filter, this oil vs that oil.

Yea, it's raining outside and I'm bored. I was hoping to hit 1G on some curvy roads this morning...maybe next weekend.

bw: I won't mention that No Calif is 85 and not a cloud in the sky.

Of course the other part is I was hoping for rain so I could avoid patching concrete out back

Has anyone used this one before? I know very expensive, if it last 23 oil changes then that's like buying a regular filter at 6 bucks 23 times.

http://www.hopupracing.com/troilfiing35.html

TRUFILTER, lifetime direct replacement washable oil filter, designed from 6061 T6 billet aluminum, this housing has a 1500 lb crush rate. The washable filter is a deep pleated, duplex woven, 35 micron surgical T304 stainless steel filter for superior washablity. A self sufficient, environmentally friendly oil filter. That not only creates more horsepower, but extends oil change intervals from 3000 to 7000 miles. With all of todays aftermarket performance parts, Consumers should not forget about the most vital part of the engine, “the oil filter”. This is the lifeline of your engine. Adding performance parts to your vehicles engine creates more pressure in the oil filter, this causing your oil filter to swell and compress, damaging oil seals and putting large stress figures on your oil pump. Average HP gains are 5-6. Also with the engine running more efficient, you should see an average of 1-2 mpg. TRUFILTER, filters your oil an absolute 35 micron with one pass, utilizing our “quad flow technology”. With an average install time of 5-10 minutes this kit comes complete with everything you need to do the install. All filters carry a complete lifetime warranty and are good forever. This Filter is also transferable to any vehicle by changing the main insert. This insert is free of charge from the manufacture. TRUFILTER is truly the last oil filter you will ever buy!

TRUFILTERs revolutionary design is made with T304 stainless steel media therefore allowing it to be reusable and cleanable. Unlike paper filters, the Billet aluminum exterior gives a polished appearance to your motor. Most paper filters only filter an average of 50-75 micron particles. TRUFILTER will stop anything to an absolute 35 micron. Remember, white blood cells are 25 micron. Paper filters have a “Bypass” that opens at 12 lbs of pressure. Most motors idle at 11lbs of pressure. At 12 lbs, the bypass opens and filtering stops. All of the dirt and metals are then sent back into your motor. Paper filters only filter 10-20% of their actual life. With TRUFILTER, oil changes can be extended to every 7,000 miles. This will save you time, energy and, most importantly, money.

That TRUEFILTER info is garbage.
Firstly, you won't get a 5-6HP boost simply by changing your oil filter. That claim has no basis in reality; complete hogwash.
Secondly, a 12psi bypass valve opens when the pressure drop ACROSS THE FILTER ELEMENT exceeds 12psi, not when the absoute oil pressure is 12 psi. The bypass valve only opens if the filter is extremely clogged, or at startup when there is a surge in pressure. It is a protective feature that prevents your engine from being starved of oil in abnormal conditions. All good filters should have a bypass valve.
Secondly, 35 micron particles are quite large by oil contaminant standards. Good synthetic media filters (Mobil1, Purolator Pure One etc) have filtering efficiencies of 95%+ for particles in the 10-20 micron range.

Mine came in today. I have 1K before next oil change. So i will post after a while.
It's smaller than i thought it would be. Does anyone have a stock filter around? Measure it in Circumference and height for me? Or another filter for the 350.
It's heavier than i thought, 7.9 oz. But, i haven't held another filter so i can't compare.
The magnet inside it is alright.

Amsoil and mobil1 filters are the best ive seen. Ive used amsoil in 3 cars all of which are still in the family. First of all they are hi-flow just like any good filter but when used with amsoil pure synthetic only need to be changed every 6 months or 7.5k miles. Since Im my famlilies mechanic i change the oil on my sisters 97 integra and my M&D's 1998 CL 3.0. Both have over 120k miles and have been on the 1 yr oil change for years now. The other car is my Z and that only has 4k on it so not much of an example but weve owned all of these cars from new and amsoil products have been the only thing to touch them after the initial oil change. I dont plan on doing the 1 yr thing on my Z though since i drive it hard but prob every 5k to 6k. Do your research people, oil has moved past the whole 2-3k change interval even if you race.
