K&N HP1008
Especially handy since it has a 1" nut mounted to the end- makes it easy to install and remove.

Here's some info you can check out to make a final decision. Pureone is like half the cost of mobil1 and K&N but if you do your oil changes regularly you can probably get away w/ using any brand, just some filters are more effective then others so your oil might be a little dirtier using one brand compared to another.

I use the K&N HP1006. It's slightly larger than the HP1006, both in length and OD. When I first saw the HP1008, I called a K&N Tech and told him I wanted a filter with a little more capacity. He checked his spec. book, and recommended the HP1006. Same pressure readings, and as I said a little bigger.

Considering the price differential between the least expensive and most expensive is less than the cost of 3 gallons of gas, is this really an issue??
Basic construction of all these filters is similar and the real issue for me is the challenge posed by the air diffuser below the engine- I like to change filters without taking it off and the K&N makes this much easier.
lowrider- I remember someone had opted for a larger K&N but couldn't remember what filter # it was- thanks for posting this again!!!!

"Is this really an issue" you ask? Good question.
If your goal is to change your oil, go buy any filter based on price.

If your goal is to make a difference in the reliability and performance of your engine, there are only a couple of great, but expensive filters. Use a good brand name oil and either spend the money on the great filter or spend the money changing your oil constantly.

I have specified test for numerous filters on hydraulic equipment. Some are crap, most are OK, only a few are great.

Mobile M-105 is what I have on now. It's a lot bigger (diameter-wise) than the oem filter & much better construction quality.

The Nissan tech said it rubbed just a hair on the bracket that is located above it, but it won't cause any problems.

I have the Mobil M105 as well but no rubbing as I changed the filter myself several times. Rubbing may occur when putting on or taking off the filter. There is enough clearance all around the filter.

The great filters, IMHO:
Mobil 1
K&N

They are made in the same factory by the sparkplug folks, Champion.
The criteria I use for my opinion is filtration level, which is a function of internal design. The length/diameter of the filter case is only circumstantial evidence of the possible dirt-holding capacity. More capacity is great, but not if it means compromising filtration level.

Just FYI... Champion Labs, the folks who make filters, are not afiliated in any way with the spark plug maker Champion. They're two entirely separate companies with similar names.
I used to be a fan of Mobil1 filters - I used M1-110 for the first two years of my Z's life. However, I noticed that I had a lot of startup noise with these filters... I suspect the anti-drainback valve didn't seat properly, allowing oil to drain from the filter when the engine was turned off. I recently switched to a similarly sized Purolator PureOne. The noise went away.
PureOne filters have roughly the same filtering efficiency as the Mobil1's, but cost half as much. And I have less startup noise with the PureOne's...
Give 'em a shot.

I use the Napa Gold 1365 Oil Filter. Another High Quality filter right up there with the K+N and Mobil 1. I've been using it exclusively since mile 3750. Here is my blackstone oil report at ~27k miles:

Mwaller, thanks for corrected my mistake on Champion Labs. I should be more careful. The Champion spark plug people also make oil filters, but for aircraft engines.
