Default Shifter rattle is cured.....................

My shifter would not stop rattling since about 300 miles. I now have 3000 miles and finally got off my lazy azz and fixed it. The noise was driving me to the brink of insanity. In case this has not been posted in plain english, here's what you do. 1. Wrap shift handle w/ towel and remove w/ channel locks.

2. You will notice a small beveled spacer that sits just below the theads on the shift lever. This is what makes the noise. Wrap electrical tape around the shift lever where the spacer sits until it fits very snug.

3. Re install handle and drive in peace and quiet.

4. If this does not work, install RS*R exhaust w/o the silencers and you will never here the rattle again. ( or your radio).

I thought I had this problem, at about 100mph i heard a rattle comming from what i thought was the shifter. IT ended up being only change in the little coin tray behind the shifter.

I've been wondering about this damn rattle, basically it's less worse when you hold the shifter tight than when you let it loose right? It's driving me on the brink of insanity as well. It seems to do it more when the car is still cold, later on during the day it's not as bad. Maybe I just phase it out i don't know.

Oh another question, I've been looking around and reading the threads about defective transmissions, basically it's only the 03's that have been plagued by this? Or should I expect some downtime to get a new tranny in the next 10000 miles on my 05?

Sorry to revive an old thread...

How important is this bevelled spacer? Would it hurt anything if I take it out? I have a Nismo GT shift **** btw...
