5AT Tranny Fluid Level
This may seem like an odd question, but does anyone know how to read the 5AT tranny fluid level dipstick? I have the service manual and it says there are "cold" and "hot" level markings but there is no picture. What has me confused is that there are two notches that are marked "hot" but they are lower on the dipstick than the other markings that look just like the ones you would see on an oil dipstick. When I check the fluid level while it is cold, it seems low, but after warming up the fluid and re-checking it seems about right based on the markings that say "hot". I am just curious to know if the lower notches are actually the "cold" markings while the other part is the "hot" markings???? If that is the case then I need to add a little fluid, but I do not want to overfill!! I have tried many searches but have found nothing.
A 350Z 5AT tranny is FFL (fill for life) meaning that you shouldn't be checking, adding, or doing anything to the tranny fluid level, ever.
In fact, it even has its own special Nissan brand of fluid that only the dealer is supposed to even be able to open and put in.

No answers? There is a part of me that wants to think the lower notches are the cold and the grid is the hot section, but since the lower notches are marked "hot" I am just not sure and really do not want to overfill this thing.
I went and looked at both 04 and 05 service manuals . . .neither really has an answer to your question.
It did say that you have to go to each gear then back to park then check while started . . . which I bet you did anyway.
The 04 FSM adds:
On a funny note the FSM does say
I wonder if you can drive it in country areas but listen to urban music? Will that work the same?

The 04 FSM adds:
To check fluid level, insert the A/T fluid level gauge until
the cap contacts the end of the A/T fluid charging pipe,
with the gauge reversed from the normal attachment conditions
as shown.

Drive vehicle for approximately 5 minutes in urban areas.
