Default Transmission Problems - 6MT

Ok so about 3-4 weeks ago I purchased a used 350Z, 6mt, and I seem to be having some wierd issues with my car. First of all, I noticed that when my car is warming up after a night of not being used, you seem to hear some noise (im assuming from the transmission--not bad or anything, but its THERE and can be HEARD). If I push the clutch in, the noise is gone. Does anyone else have this issue, what is this noise?

I had a 6spd G35 coupe brand new but I got into an accident about 2 months ago, and I never had this problem.

Also, I seem to be having problems with my 5th gear in regards to grinds. If I am shifting quickly into 5th, I get a grind. I took it into Nissan, the service guy it took for a drive with me, and he managed to grind himself in 5th! He then said "let me push the clutch further down and try again" and so he did it, fine, no more grinds. Why is it that only 5th gear grinds? I never push the clutch down to the floor on any gear when I shift and I never have probs with any other gear...he basically concluded that "the clutch needs to be pushed down to the floor in order to drive this car" which is kinda a dumb answer if you ask me He didn't even take a look at it any further than this test drive and said that if I take it to another dealer they will tell me the same thing...

A few days ago I managed to grind getting into 5th WITH the clutch down to the floor and I could repeat it every time I got into 5th gear either from upshifting or downshifting. Does anyone know what this could be?

I would be very thankful for any advice you can give me in regards to this matter so I can take it in again to have them look at it. I only have a few months left on my warranty and I want to get anything thats wrong fixed =)

Thanks alot guys!!!

I have the exact same problem since i changed the clutch/flywheel on my car. Im going to try some new lightweight Redline tranny fluid and see if that cures it.

You should go back to the dealer and be persistent about your 5th gear grinding since you are still under warranty.

I wouldn't worry too much about the 5th gear grind....unless the car makes a LOUD noticeable grind, like a butter knife caught in a blender...than yeah, get the lazy *** tech to swap tranny's. I have the same problem, yet i can only feel the slight grind and there is not grinding noise coming from the tranny. I had a tech look at mine too, because i was having trouble going into 3rd and 5th, he checked it out and said he could not reproduce the grind...and that the nature of these tranny's are to be rough because of the torque of the car! Give it some more time, and if it gets to a point where the transmission is making a noise like a butter knife caught in a blender....then yeah, get the phucken' thing replaced! God bless WARRANTIES!!!

Well I mean its a grind...regardless if its a big grind or not, it shouldnt be there. My G35 never had grinding issues unless I obviously made a mistake with clutching... and I have 28,000 miles on the car, bought it used. I'm assuming the previous owner didnt know how to drive... haha

Im just going to take it down to the dealer and try to harass them some more =)

Does anyone know what I can do if they refuse to check it out since its under warranty? I mean I dont think its fair to have to goto another dealership because they are too lazy or whatever, if I paid for a car and I have a warranty, I would think that ANY dealership should take a look at it. Sometimes dealerships are just plain jerks about warranty issues, I swear! Ideas?

I wouldn't mind going to another dealership if they can give me a loaner car...my Nissan said they dont do loaners? I liked Infiniti because they give you loaners and are really professional, my Nissan which is just down the street from Infiniti is horrible, the receptionist smells like cigar smoke, has an attitude, and smacks on her gum in my face...

Anyone else from the Bay Area deal with Serramonte Nissan? Bah!

Default Here`s what you do...

If your car grinds when the clutch is used properly (as you say it is), then it may very well be a bad synchro = bad tranny = give me a new one under warranty, please!

My 03` Z developed a grind going into 3rd, and I believe 5th, after I had the car a little over 10k miles. I wasn`t beating on the car at all - hell, I BABIED IT - except for taking the rpms`s up to 6k to get some power. No powershifts, no hard launches, none of that....

So, I took it to a dealership and said ``tranny grinds``. They drove it, reproduced it and........... TESTED THE TRANNY FLUID FOR METAL SHAVINGS....that was the key I think. Not supposed to have metal shavings/chunks in there!

I got a new tranny, and it is very nice!

Thanks a lot, this is what I was looking for! Hopefully this dealership can help me out and check my tranny out...It's rediculous the way dealerships act sometimes I swear...Dealerships don't make too much money on cars, but instead they make all their money from the repair shop and financing...but when it comes to warranty issues in regards to a big problem like this (changing tranny possibly) they always BS their ways out of it...just you wait Nissan, your gonna get harassed soon enough =)

I was wondering the same thing...but now i remember a car sales guy told me when i first started looking for a Z said that it grabs early so there is no need to put it all the way down to the ground. He wasnt just any stupi dealer he was really into the Zs and G35 and SEEMED like he knew a lot about them

Yeah...I never pushed the clutch down to the ground in the g35 either, i honestly dont see the need to because it doesnt catch down there anyways...it engages higher up if you havn't adjusted it from OEM specs. But, this is another story we can argue, but for the sake of this topic, I can grind with the clutch down to the floor too =)

I never grind in any other gear if I dont push it down to the ground, only 5th

Nissan shall feel my wraith on Monday since I don't have my car right now =)

And the mirror rattle has a TSB fix on it =)
