Unhappy Check your front tires NOW!!!

Gang,

I think that we may have a major problem with the “Z’s”. I have been noticing a loud roar in the car as we slow down to a stop. This has been getting louder and louder as time and miles have increased. We now have just over 4900 miles on our Redline Touring 6sp and the front tires are JUNK!! The insides edges are “Cupped” badly and are worn beyond use. I spoke with my Dealers Tech this afternoon and there are no TSB’s out on this. He told me that he had hoped that Nissan would have this problem fixed with the new 350Z. He said that this was common problem with the 300ZX and I got the impression that there never was a true fix on those cars. Check your tires and let’s get together on this one so Nissan NA can be contacted for a fix. If we don’t act as one on this problem, we will be putting new tires on these cars every 5000 miles or so out of our own pockets. So like I said “Check your front tires NOW!”

MS,

Check the problems and maintenance forum for droidekus' post about tire issues...I had mine replaced today at 3980 miles.

sounds like a poor tire, fixed by replacing with a better tire brand. granted, that sux to do on a 5000mile tire, but its not a "major problem"

or are you insinuating its the camber of the tire that is causing the problem? if so, just give me a reason to get a suspension kit with adjustable camber, not sure if any are out yet, but there will be eventually.

I have about 6200mi on my RE-040's, and have no signs of scalloping or cupping in my tires. I thank my lucky stars every day that this is the case.

Hopefully, those that experience this problem can have it fixed properly and quickly, and that Nissan steps up to fix any issues related to it.

Z33fan, JimH,

You both have 17" wheels with the 50 profile tires. Everyone who's had this problem has either been on the Performance/Touring 18s or the Rays. Weird, huh?

Is this just fast wear on the tire? Or some sort of abnormal wear on one part/side? My rear tires are bald at 6k miles in the rear, but evenly across. Different issue?

That's what you would think, and I'd love to admit to doing that alot, but I haven't. Not even once. I leave my VDC on all the time too. I don't get it...

I don't disagree that it's a little weird. Hopefully Nissan can get it right, and soon.

Maybe going to 50-series 18"s would work? But, by that time, you're about running truck tires. Might as well dune-buggy race your Z when that happens, huh?

Check the poll I'll post, to see if there's correlation between 17's vs. 18's and improper wear.

Default Now Abnormal Wear for me

I have 4300miles with Touring 6spd (so 18" tires). So far no abnormal wear and tear on either front or rear.

I am thanking the angel looking over me I don't have this problem.
