Default Draining coolant from block Necessary?

Is it necessary to drain the blocks when changing fluid. If so is the fluid small enough that I can catch it in a small cup to avoid a mess of having it drop on the lower parts of the engine?

Just drain and fill the rad and you will be fine. As long as you drain and fill every year you'll be fine. If your worried about whats in the block take it somewhere and have it power flushed with a machine.
