Hey guys,

I just recently took my vehicle in for the same noise. Nissan informed me that I had a defective (through out bearing “release bearing”). Nissan opted to replace the item under warranty. Although along with the replacement they decided that the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel would need to be replaced in order to guarantee that a future problem would not exist. In regards to previous posts on the clutch pedal staying depressed while under hard acceleration. This is due to a faulty pedal assembly and has also been replaced by Nissan. Bottom line Nissan is very aware of these problems with a few of the early Z’s.

My car has been in the shop since Feb 24th; the hold up has been the pedal assembly. So to answer your question they are promising me the car by today Thursday the 6th. If all parts available this should be a relatively quick deal 2 days maybe. More to come, as soon as I get it back I will post results with exact part #’s and items they replaced.
Let’s hope it’s done today.

TooK mine in for an oil leak and the throw-out bearing noise. Tranny and drive shaft were replaced. The dealer said the noise was normal and found no TSB's.

So then you still have the noise??... or by changing the tranny and drive shaft solve the problem? Sorry I'm confused.

No, the clutch noise is still there. That's why the dealer said it was normal. They replaced the transmission and the drive shaft to fix the leaking problem.

I heard the rattling sound that I haven't noticed before. So, is this the sound that people are talking about? Should I take my Z to the dealer to check out the noise?

As promised I would post the items required to repair my clutch noise/sticky clutch pedal.
The vehicle was in the shop for about 2 week’s, due to parts orders. The repair “labor time was only 15 hours”.
• BUSH 1RST SHAFT [05N/32202-B9500]
• BEARING RELEASE [05N/30502-69F10]
• FLYWHEEL ASSY [05N/12310-CD001]
• COVER ASSSY-CLUT [05N/30210-CD020]
• DISC ASSY-CLUTC [05N30100-CD020]
• SPO PART PIN FOR MAST CYL [SPO PART]
• MTF FLUID [05N/999MP-MTF00P]

The car seems to be fixed the noise is gone, however the part that was replaced to prevent the clutch pedal from staying depressed, changed the way the pedal feels. There is a lot less travel now and a lot more free play in the pedal. All normal the dealer says. Good luck in your quest to stop the noise I hope this list of parts will help.

I am currently waiting for NNA to call me on this issue. My case was assigned to someone that supposedly knows more about the technical problems of the car. I will let you know about the clutch noise when I find out.

I just noticed today (first day of driving with both windows open) that my clutch rattles a hell of a lot. Its not so bad at idle, yet noticeable. Its most noticeable while taking off in 1st gear slowly. After that, the engine noise drowns out the rattle. It definitely sounds like a bad release bearing.

Got a Z a couple of days ago and noticed the clutch noise after reading posts here - talked to the dealer about it and he said that it was normal.... otherwise the car runs great.

My release bearing whines like a 6 year old in a candy store.
I took the car to the local Nissan dealer and let a tech listen to it.
He said, yup, needs to be replaced, call and make an appointment.
Unfortunately, I 'll be out of a car for at least three days.

I'll post more info after the supposed repair takes place.

I disagree with those who say this much noise from a TO/release bearing is normal.

Yeah...I have the same noise...I hope this is normal, but just in case im going to the dealership as soon as I can.

Man this is so frustrating. The dealership and NNA both keep telling me that this is normal but I've never heard this much clutch chatter in any of my old cars (including older Nissans). Anyway, I decided to ignore it for now and if something should happen in the future let the warranty take care of it. Specially since I got the GOLD PREFERRED extended warranty. However, I just checked the warranty pamphlet and what do I see under items not covered:
clutch friction disc and pressure plate,
Throw out bearing.

OK i have the grinding sound, and needed a new tranny. Im not sure if i have this problem as well? Can someone explain the actual issue, and what i shoud look for, in a little more detail? Thanks. Also in easy terms since im no mechanic Thanks

Its exactly as I described in my FIRST Post of this thread.

Specifically when the car is warm, and the clutch is engaged, there is a chattery sound coming from under the car. This is best heard in a quiet place with your door open and a couple of up/down travels of the clutch pedal. If it has this problem, you'll hear it for sure. No need to strain your ears!

Additionally, my tach shows about 100RPM change during the clutch up/down move.

Lastly, when disengaging the clutch at low RPM and speed out of 1st gear it makes a loud pop.

Does this sound about right guys?

Everything you said was right on for me except that I haven't heard the pop yet when disengaging the clutch. I'll have to check on this.
