Default clicking noise from rear axle TSB

This happens once in a while and it is annoying me. I want to know if this clicking noise is damaging anything or causing any lower perforamnce.

The reason why I ask is because I dislike bringing my car to the dealership. I really don't trust them and they have screwed up many other times before. I really don't want to bring the car into them for this TSB if I don't have to.

Yes. The “clicking” is causing unnecessary wear and tare inside the rear axle. Have it fixed.

Eventually the hub assembly will fail. You don't want that...

I indeed have the clicking problem; I can't tell exactly WHERE in the rear the clicking is coming from, but my noise starts from a stop or very slow speed, under accel., or when changing from drive to reverse (I have 5AT). Any way it could be AUTO tranny noise (all the many posts I could find on tranny was for 6MT) or coming from pumpkin in rear?

Also, has the axle TSB now been extended to include roadster or coupe models manufactured on or after 3/04? I have a copy of TSB NTB04-065, but it stops with cars built Feb. 14, 2004.

Regardless of whether a service bulletin includes your Z, you still have a “deficiency” which is covered by the warranty.

Service Bulletin Num : 04065a
Date of Bulletin: JUL 11, 2005

Component: SUSPENSION
Summary: 2003 – 2005 NISSAN 350Z; CLICKING NOISE FROM REAR AXLES

The TSB has been updated on July 11th, 2005 to include ALL Z33, 2003 to 2005.

The fun thing is, all parts a BO... I'm waiting for mine and the noise is just getting worst...

I just got the clicking noise, and boy is it loud already. ( Maybe its that i know its there.) I took it in to Nissan this morning and the guy knew exactly what it was. He said " its the axle bolts" i said fine lets change them when he snikered. Hes says he is waiting for two to come in shortly but has 48 on back order. Now thats rediculous. I cant drive like this! is there anyway to get these bolts quicker? somebody has to be responsible for it, the sound almost sounds dangerous.

http://www.nissanhelp.com/Ownership/.../NTB04-065.htm

I found printing the TSB and bringing it to the dealer and then driving the car with a tech guy in it and producing the noise makes them take you seriously.

The first time I went in, I had no TSB and I let them have it for a day. I picked it up that afternoon and they told me there was no clicking noise.

Well, it so happens that I just came back from the dealer today. I went there with the above TSB in hand and I drove with a tech guy around and pointed out the noise when I produced it. He agreed with me and he wrote a work order up.

He'll call me when the parts are in.

i agree with you zlleh,

although i spoke to the service manager and he is well aware of this particular TSB, i have printed out that TSB and i will bring that with me to the dealership. i think this will cover all bases and i should be good to go....especially after speaking with the service manager about the problem.

good post and info...thanks

Has anyone noticed that the TSB mentions that the outer axle joints and wheel bearings need to be replaced but in the parts list, it only shows the nuts and bolts. My dealer only greased the flanges and did not change any parts. Do you guys think the problem will come back ?

I got the rear axle clicking noise TSB done on Monday. It is now Thursday and the clicking noise is gone. I don't have the receipt on me so I don't know what they ordered.

side note: I got charged $84cdn because I had an aftermarket exhaust that they had to take off because it is dual exhaust. If you have the stock which is one pipe going down to the muffler, they do not have to take apart the exhaust to do the TSB. Just so you guys will be prepared.

Take a look at what they did when you have a chance. I'm worried of the damage done to the axle prior to adding the grease. It may not click anymore, but what kind of damage was done do it ? Sounds like the parts are on back order... I need to return to the dealer anyway, so I may ask them to fix it again. We'll see what they say...
