Hey guys,
I had a few quick questions about my tranny...fear it may be giving me problems. I now have 11k on my 03.

1) My tranny whines in gears 1-4...severely until about 3000 RPMs. Is this normal? Below 3k or so the whining is prob louder than the motor itself.

2) If I have the windows up and stereo off, when I shift into third gear I hear a strange noise - it sounds as if something is spinning...almost like a blowoff valve except I have no turbo. I'm guessing it's a synchro. No real grinding though.

Obviously I'm planning on taking it into the dealer for eval, but I just wanted to see if others were familiar with them.

That happens in my new tranny also mc350z...about 600 miles.. Realy really loud above 4K. Does your shifter vibrate ALOT also? I've driven a few manual cars and this one you can like feel the tranny WIIIBRATE YOO

 

I got mine in Oct. 2002 and the tranny is still original. From my experience, this is probably most rough and noisiest trannies ever! Whining is not as apparent, but there's gear grinding, bearing noise, and too many clunking noises when I shift. It's embarassing! Of course... my dealership refuses to help me on this one - not unless my tranny literally falls apart or something.
