So my 03 z has recently had a 3rd gear synchro grinding problem that the nissan dealership diagnosed at 48k miles. I have read on many tranny's being replaced due to this problem and pursued getting nissan to replace my tranny. I have had the clutch replaced first with an exedy performance clutch and decided it wasnt the clutch for me and switched back to a nismo clutch, both done by nissan service. Anyway, they are denying me the new tranny just based on the fact that i changed my clutch and flywheel even though nismo is warrantied and recommended by nissan. i need any advise on this i can get! the nissan service is NOT willing to help me any further. Plus they all try and treat me like **** cause im a chick who usually knows more than them! but i need help on where to go next!

 

Both the NISMO clutch and flywheel are R-Tune: not warrantee by Nissan.

If your modifications were minor, I’d recommend that you put the car back to the original condition. But its a bit late because Nissan is already aware of the mods.

Have you written to Nissan Corporate headquarters?

I also have problems with my 3rd gear grinding too. 3rd gear would not grind though if i slow shifted and it would grind everytime if i quick shifted. I took my Z to the dealership today to drop it off and 2 technicians drove my car they got the 3rd gear to grind everytime. They are going to look into it further tomorrow and i will keep you posted on what they did to fix the problem. I think it the transmission though. Try to milk out your warranty as much as you can before it runs out though. 03 SS 350Z Touring

 

same problem on my 03. I have 10k on my car and the gears where grinding 2 so I took the car in and they replaced the tranny...good luck you guy's

 

other than returning to stock clutch/flywheel (which means $$ on labor), try go to another dealership. Nissan dealerships are prone of mistreating customers, so it's gonna be a long shot. good luck,

 

unfortunatly i cant go to another dealership cause i already filed a complaint with nissan usa. id get the same end result anywhere i go cause they have my car filed. ive owned 3 nissans now...240sx, 300zxTT, and now the 350 and ive never had as many problems as i do with this car. nissan sure made lemons in 03! too bad they cant own up to their mistake and make it right! might be time to get attorneys involved
