Default Engine shut down on hard 1st to 2nd shift

I started noticing this about a month ago & its happening more frequently now than ever. When shifting from 1st to 2nd & really get on it my engine shuts down for a couple of seconds. Anybody else have this problem? I did a search & could not find anything on this..

Sounds like the TCS is kicking in to prevent wheelspin. It is really aggressive sometimes and feels like the engine shuts down. Turn off TCS and try it: if you burn rubber instead of getting the power cut-off, that's what it is.

Thanks z350z,
I'll give that a try in the morning.

Default How does the TCS work?

I have had the same thing happen after an agressive shift into 2nd gear at about 3000rpm, the engine does not shut down, just stays at 3000rmp for several seconds. That bring up a good point, how does TCS work, is it on the brakes or on the engine controls?

Yes, that happened to me once when pulling out of a side street onto a two lane highway. I felt the car suddenly "bog" whilst an F-150 came roaring down on me, no doubt doing 25+ over the speed limit. I did notice the VDC light flash on, so I made the mental note to turn off the VDC before I stomp on the car when pulling out into traffic in the future.

Yes that is what it is! I have been testing the functionality of the TCS and it is very unpredictable, but it does have some trends.

I did the same thing one day by pulling out in front of some one, where in my mustang I could gun it, control the fishtail and be on my way no problem. I went to do it in the Z and forgot about the TCS. DAMNNN! I almost got creamed. Bog central.

It has seemed to learn my driving style and will let me do more before it kicks in. For example I can spin in the top of first and the top of second with it on and it just smiles. When it rains, it works great! If you get it sideways (one wheel spinning faster than the other) the TCS kicks in every time. If you take a turn up a hill fast, with or without throttle, it kicks in. If you pull into a gravel drive and floor it it kicks in. If you leave the throttle where was, it is like having a turbo kick in when TCS subsides.

The difference between VDC and TCS . . .Nissan may be pulling our leg. I mean there was a plan to have 2 switches and now there is 1. Mine will correct a step out like VDC should. I wish we knew the computer differences between the two. I may look into seeing if mine has the VDC sensors too. If some one is thinking of getting the more $$$ model for VDC, I would not worry about it. My TCS appears to controll both braking and engine control

tcs can only control engine speed I believe, it could brake possibly, but VDC is sposed to be able to brake individual tires to hald a drifting skid during lane changes or icy/snow. it also has not "learned" from me, it kicks in always. and it bogs it down a bit more than maybe it needs to, but Id take that over the opposite. so long as I can turn it off Im ok.

I think you are right. I have been looking at the manual and see what is going on. I do know that TCS seems to be smart enough to do what I described above. Good enough for me.
