Having gas door opening problems

Several times now when I hit the gas door button the door does not open. I have to hit it several times before it will open. Thats a scary feeling when your below empty and the door will not open. Any one else having this problem? What can you do to get it open if the button doesnt work?
I've had that problem from time to time. Sometimes I have to hit the release button pretty hard to get the gas door to open. Other times, the release on the gas door will let go, but it won't pop the door up so if I'm not careful when I go to pull it open, I'll accidentally push it back down into the lock when I'm trying to fit my finger between the door and the car frame, and then I'll have to go back and hit the button again. I'll definitely be getting this addressed when I go to the dealer for my next oil change.

In my meeting with the Technical Services Manager yesterday, he showed me why this happens.
If the cord that is attached to gas cap get in front of the "tab" that is below and to the right of the filler tube (there are 2 such tabs, both the color of the body), pressure is exerted on the release mechanism and it takes a few pushes of the button to release the door.
The fix (for now): after you screw on your gas cap, make sure the string is behind the tab and thus against the car body and not above any of the tabs.
I wish I had a digital cam so I could take pictures and show you, but I think the tabs are fairly easy to spot. There's a left tab below the filler tube which act to hold the door shut and there's a right tab about an inch or two away.

Had that problem except mine would never open no matter how many times I pushed the button. Took it in and they had to replace the mechanism. Works great now (well, before it went into storage).
