question on exhaust parts

Does anyone know what the two metal-fiber wrapped cylinders under the car in the exhaust system are? I scraped one pretty good on a bump in a parking lot, and was just wondering what I hit.

If you are talking about the ones in the Y-pipe they are flex joints to help reduce the chance of cracking the exhaust when the engine twists in its mounts
