Default tire pressure monitor inaccuracies

Anyone find that their tire pressure monitor reads 3-5 lbs. low? Can this be recalibrated, or is 3-5 lbs. high or low normal for these remote sensors?

not sure... I jut filled my tires, put 40PSI hot into them... according to one of those cheap little stick blowing thingys.

then when I drive it reads about 37-38... Im skeptical to call the TPM off cause that stick could just as easily read 2PSI high. owell, not sure, but its somewhere near 35PSI cold which is recomended.

and for all those having the dealer "reset" your PSI indicator. ummm it does it all by itself, you just have to put air back in your tires.

Default Tire Pressure

I have a hand held digital tire pressure gauge and it always reads the same as the on board pressure gauges.

What digital guages are you using?

Default Tire pressure sensors

My tire pressure sensors used to read the same as two different digital tire gauges. However after I got new S0'3 installed the car sensors read 2-3 psi below the actual pressure.

I asked my dealer to re-calibrate the car sensors and was told there is no way to do that. Then they tried to tell me it was because the S0'3 have a slightly different geometry. Bull$hit, pressure is pressure - don't let anyone tell you different.

For now I am trusting my handheld gauges. I know that if I call Nissan about this they will just say that the car's system is not that accurate and is only meant as a low pressure warning system.

Personally, I never trust any tire pressure guage that is attached to an air hose at a gas station, ESPECIALLY the ones that pop out a incremented piece of metal. I did on my last car, and then couldnt figure out why I burned through a set of tires so fast, until I realized i was driving around with 26 lbs (hot) in them. Basically just about any guage that costs more than 20 bucks will be accurate to < 1 PSI.

Ive checked the sensors against more than one handheld gauge, and theyre always dead on, with the exception that they round off to the closest whole number. If yours is constantly off, Id suggest checking it against another guage first and if youre sure its the ones on the Z that are wrong, go camp out at the dealership until theyre replaced. It might take 30 minutes or arguing against the "only a low pressure warning system" BS of the dealer, but they'll cave on it, especially if you refuse to agree with anything they say.... not that Im uber-stubborn or anything...

Just my .02 + a bonus .01

I have heard from other Z owners that they too have compared several pressure gauges and they are agree while the cars digital readout is 2-3 PSI low compared to all the other gauges. That is my experience as well.
