Default Stalling! bad? How bad?

Hi guys, I just got my Z 48 hours ago! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YEAH YEAH YEAH! It was awsome as I'm sure many of you knows.

Anyway, I haven't driven standard in 9 years, and when I did, I sucked.

So after I got the car and started breaking it in, I couldn't get the clutch feel and stalled it about 10-15 times in that time period. All of them are dead stop stalls (trying to get going). That damned clutch is heavy! I'm feeling pain seeing my Z being abused by me! I HATE IT! But honestly, how bad is it to an unbroken in engine to stall it?

PS: I'm getting better now. I haven't stalled it in a while.

yeah i stalled about 5 times myself during break-in. It was hard to get the feel for the clutch at first.. but after that.. it drives sweeeet. Anyways, IMO.. i think its ok to stall a couple of times and plus, modern engines these days are built much more better than b4.

Hehe, thanks, that helps a little for my ego. I was worried that I would mess up proper breakin. I was thinking that stalling an engine is not too different from turnning it off. Am I right along those lines?

Im sure its not good for it, but I wouldnt sweat it.

my concern is whether Im used to the clutch or if the clutch is slipping more... maybe a mix of both, but Im worried Im screwing up the clutch without even knowing it.

Ah, you had problems too? I stalled it 15 times total. How about you? lol! we have a contest going here. From what I have gathered, it does more damage to the clutch to stall the engine than the engine itself. Is that true?

PS: Does any one know if the reverse gear has synchros on it?

Gotta confess with you guys. I'm 21, this is my first brand new car that I'm invested.

I've never driven a manual before in my life, so I thought maybe it wasn't so bad to go buy one. Well, once I got my Z out of the lot, I was like wow this is pretty easy.

I have to admit, the clutch is really tough, but once you get use to it, you will have a blast.

I did stall about 15 times at my driveway. I was trying to get use to driving on uphills form a deadstop. Its pretty hard since the car flies back when you let go of the brake.

I'm still getting use to it, I only temporary grind gears for a short period of time because of my fast shifting.

Just give it some time, you get use to it.

grinding =bad

replacing the clutch isnt so huge, you can get a racing clutch anyway. save the tranny tho.

I stalled the first time out, on a test drive with the dealer in the passenger seat, his response? your dad did the same thing. when it was new I swear it was on and off, no slip. but Im used to a old BMW clutch that could use to be swapped. now its perfect, stalled it maybe once in the last month, stalling is a way of life, youll always lose concentration or something. it happens. dont worry bout it.

besides, you got a warrenty.

Default Hills, Rolling back and stalling

You can use your emergency brake on hills, unless you can heel/toe, which I can't. Set the emergency brake easy when you come to a stop with the clutch in. Don't set it real hard, just enough to hold you. When you want to start moving ahead, let the clutch out slow and let the emergency brake off at the same time, just as you get to the friction point and begin to move, you won't roll back or stall. You can use the emergency brake until you get quicker from brake to clutch, learn how to heel/toe and even then when you are on a real steep hill. That's why its a hand brake. Don't sit on the hill with the clutch half out or rocking to hold you, that'll burn it.
