Default How long is the factory battery good for?

When my dad had the car, he kept it in the garage, driven very sparingly since 2003. Now that I have the car, if I let it sit for a few days, battery is completely dead, only get clicks when I start the motor, having to jump it.

How long does the factory battery good for?

Depends on usage. I change my battery every 3 years in all of my cars regardless of thier condition.

The battery is good until it dies. Your battery is dead. Get a new one.

If you battery is dead or dies frequently, then it's probably time to replace it. Regular car batteries are not meant for deep discharge. Once that happens it's been my experience that they tend to get progressively worse over a short period of time (weeks to months).

My battery is leaking, I'm pretty sure it came from factory. I bought the car used last year. I saw the same problem with a Maxima.

Going to buy the Optima next month

buy a multimeter and see if the battery holds a constant voltage overnight. if not, you battery is toast. remember to bring the meter to the autostore and check the voltage of the ones on the rack. i just bought a battery and the first one they gave me had 10.5V. The next was 12.1. The third was finally 12.4.

you can also check if the alternator is charging your battery. voltage across the terminals when the car is running should be above 13V. hopefully closer to 14.

with your new battery in the car check what current draw you have in the car. put the multimeter's terminals in series with the negative post of the battery and see how many milliamps your car draws when it's just sitting there. If it's over 100 mA you have something drawing current and that will kill your battery over time if you don't drive the car often enough.

if you can't find the current draw then just disconnect the battery if you know the car is not going to be driven for a while.

I just replaced my battery today at 35,700 miles and 40 months of use.

I bought an Interstate MT-35.

$79 and 75 month warranty.

Depends, I have had an OEM battery that lasted for 9+ years before I sold the car.

Don't forget to add water if you want to maximize the battery life!

get a trickle charger, something with 2amp or less 12v(don't forget). Then every now and then trickle charge it overnight. It will generally say to only let it run for 8hours, but trickle charging has an added effect of slowly breaking down the sulfur buildup in the plates. Plus checking and maintaining the water level in the battery. Also making sure you don't do a full discharge can pretty much make a battery last 5-10 years. Remember each time you start up that there is a large current draw on the battery so if you're doing a lot of small drives then your battery probably isn't being fully recharged.
