OK i think i found the culprit that is leaving the streak of grease on the windows. it was the felt thing in this picture

it was towards the front of the door the inside of the door has a few of them and i think they help with rattle but this was so not worth keeping


i took of the door panel so that i can get a better look at it and used a long set of needle nose pliers to nab it and yank it out.

just look at the grease on it, yea i know i need a manicure

you see that nasty looking felt piece, just yank that ***** out. i noticed that was the culpret because it was the only piece in there where the white greasy part was not in place and touching the window and the window would drag it up more when it went up. the picture of the inside of the door with the medal exposed is when i yanked it out, i didnt think of taking pics of it before i did it but would have been a good idea.

 

there is a TSB on this and Nissan will fix it for free...

 

It never worked for me. They supposidly cleaned both sides. All I was left with was an arm rest panel that doesn't fit properly, a stripped out anchor nut, and more grease on the windows.
Mickey, I noticed the pads are attached to some type of metal bracket. What happens to the window now? Will the bare metal scratch the window?

 

i had nissan do the samething but its the same, so screw them i dont need to set a day to take it over there leave it all day so they can do something that took me 30 seconds to do.
oh, there is no metal touching the window, it works like a charm

 

Interesting. I shall have to do this. I'm assuming the door panel has to be removed, the tiny brushes can't be reached externally with the pliers?

yup, i had to remove the door panel dont bother tring to take off that inner silver panel because it dont come off.

This might be a tedious project for me. I've got to remove my Kappa tweeter from that upper triangular black plastic piece in order to remove the door panel, then I have 2 layers of dynomat on the inner door panel too.

 

all you need to do is roll down the window and get the door panel off the top part of the door, enough for you to see that felt thing nab it and pull it out. so easy your going to wish there was something else you can do while your there.

Does this or will this scratch the window? What purpose do those felt things actually serve? Besides putting grease on the windows....

According to the bulletin:http://www.nissanhelp.com/Ownership/.../NTB03-029.htm, they are "original glass 'stabalizer' felt". Now whenever has felt been used as a stabalizer....idk. Sounds like they could be removed but wanted to make sure this doesnt scratch the windows especially if there is tint on them...

Man good to know. I never took mine to the dealer cuz i didnt trust em and it wasnt worth what happened to vo7848. but mine too are getting worse and someone for the first time called me out on it and was like 'sup with ur windos bro, looks grimey', this hurt cuz i take such pride in keepin the z spotless. may do this when i install my new headunit and sub but fear scrathces to my nice tint job.

 

mine are really bad now... any side effects of removing that felt... like window scratches...?? anybody...??
