Default Need help finding a part....

Hello everyone!

I could use some help from the Z faithful in locating a part. Actually I have already located it but I am trying to get a better price on it.

The part number is: 27760-CD000

Anyway, it is the white ribbon cable that runs from the three climate control ***** (behind them) to this white plastic box (I believe it is called the A/C amplifier) behind the three *****. It is a very flimsy cable that has become pretty dinged up from me going behind my dash so much (to install various things I have done over the years). And my AC no longer functions because of it. I know it is just a malfunction with the cable and not the entire amplifer box, since jiggling just the cable makes my AC work intermitantly.

I was wondering if I can just order the ribbon cable and NOT the entire box it connects to. I can easily detach it from the climate control ***** and then you have to remove the white plastic box (A/C amplifier?) by unplugging three wire harnesses from the back of it. You then can remove the box with the white ribbon cable.

You then need to remove 5 or 6 screws to open up the white box. You can then unplug the ribbon cable.

The dealer tells me it is $321.00 to get the entire unit. It controls a million things. When I unplug it, every warning light on the dash comes on, the fuel gauge reads empty, the odo doesn't work, the tach and speedo read 0, the high beam indicator doesn't function, the beep beep from the keys in the ignition is gone among other things.

The first pic is the cable and the while/grey box it connects to. The plug in my hand goes to the back of the three climate control *****.

The second pic is a close up of the box itself.

The third pic is after removing the plastic cover to reveal how the ribbon cable plugs into it.

The forth pic is the cable unplugged. It isn't a conventional plug but instead you slide the plastic piece back and the cable pulls out. To lock it back in, you hold the piece back, reinsert the cable, then slide the plastic piece back. The red arrows indicate how this piece slides.

The last pic is from the parts catalog. The part is circled. Actually, the only "part" I need is the white ribbon cable that I have placed an "X" on in this picture. Unfortunately, the dealer tells me that you cannot just order the cable, but you have to order the entire unit.

My questions are:

Does anyone know how to go about getting this as a USED part to save some money?

Does anyone know if I can just get the cable somewhere and not the entire unit?

Does anyone know where to look for the best price if I have to buy it NEW?

Anyone parting out a car willing to sell it to me?

Anyone out there want to give me theirs for free?

Thanks for any help guys!

The Doc.

just a thought, but take it to a electronics repair store.

A cable is a cable. Just wires, traces and contact points. Im sure a electronics repair place can fix the cable and connector for cheap. Looks like it just needs to be put back in the plastic plug and realigned.

That's common ribbon cable just have to reuse the factory clips. or just find the offending broken wire or cracked solder joint and repair or jumper the damaged area.

All's well that ends well.

I contacted Doug Stewart at Crawford Z-car in Nashville and he had a wrecked Z there. He removed the entire box with the cable attached and shipped it to me for a nominal cost. I installed it in about 5 minutes and all is again right with the world!

Thanks again Doug!

Yup... it's gotta CANbus controller so it receives data from a bunch of sources and transmits as well. Notice the gauge cluster stops working without this box + the CEL light comes on. CEL lights up because of a CANbus error, and it'll retain it in memory for awhile. After a few successive startups without errors, the CEL light will disappear.
