I can smell my clutch burning. Why?
Hey,
I've got a 2005 roadster. Last week, I let her go at a stop light. Nothing to drastic, just a little good old tire squeeling. After the tires stopped squeeling and I was into 2nd gear, that's when the dreaded clutch burning smell came up. BAD. It wasn't even a hard launch, maybe 3000 rpm. I'm not stranger to 6speeds, and this is the damn car only has 10,000 KM on it.
Anyway, the smell went away after 5 to 10 minutes. three days later, I'm driving normally and I have to stop at an incline. No problem. Light turns green, and I pull away... oops squeel the tires a little. Nothing major, except that that nasty smell was back again. This time I barely had it over 2500 rpm. No, I wasn't riding the clutch. Wasn't even that big of hill.
Anyway, I know there could be many things going on, but can anybody shed some light. I know if I go to the dealer, they'll say either "driving it too hard" or "riding the clutch".

I hate my stock clutch with a passion. I hope mine burns out soon so I can get a new one. (Problem is, I still have under 10k miles)
I don't know what to tell you: if it smells like burnt clutch, your clutch is burning.
If it still works, just drive it and stop worrying.

I worry about my clutch all the time. It definitely makes horrible sounds sometimes. It also engages weird sometimes, like unpredictable, so I think I'm going to bleed the line and see if there's any air in there.
But.... The clutch still holds at high load (flooring it in 5th/6th at 30-40 mph), so who really cares about the minor details.
I tell myself since it still works, just drive and stop worrying.

i have just under 20K miles on my roadster, and now my clutch is starting to go out on me, its getting mushy now, but soon enough my turbo will go on, and ill put a new clutch on her
Clutch going out at 20k? Wow.
I know people who own cobras and have their stock clutch working great after 130k miles. No burnouts or anything of that sort, but has raced his car. I give that car an A+ for reliability, seeing how it's held up over the last ~ 10 years.
