Default High-pitch noise @ 80mph

At exactly 80 mph and faster, there is a high-pitched noise when the throttle is depressed. I only have about 700 miles on my Z, and I haven't even taken it over 85mph yet. I can't tell where the noise is coming from either. At first I thought is was wind noise, but then I noticed as soon as I let off the gas it stopped. Has anyone else had this problem?

The noise drives me crazy. I always drive around 80. Have not pinpointed what it is, but im sure its just gear noise.
I have the Touring 5 sp auto.

My car also makes a noise at 80 mph or so. It's an electrical sounding noise, sorta like a speaker noise. Turns out it's my mirror! Not sure if this is the same noise that you guys hear but, place your hand on your mirror the next time you hear the noise.

I've had that noise ever since I got my car, and it's only noticable between 80-85 or so. When I asked a long time ago, a lot of people speculated it was the tires.

There have been other threads about the noise. I'm almost positive that it's gear noise, because of the way the sound "bounces" on and off as you change the throttle position, or more specifically the load on the car. I notice it in my manual. But I'm surprised that you have an automatic and still hear the noise. It must be the rear end gears, because that would be common between both cars. I've also heard the noise around 70 mph, but not nearly as loud.

Other suggestions have been the fuel pump, but that wouldn't change with road speed or load.

No, the sound is distinctly coming from the front of the car... it's almost a whistling sound...

I have a Touring MT and havent heard a high pitch noise but i do get a rattleing noise when I hit speeds over 70 MPH. I have tried to locate the noise but I just cant pinpoint it. It sounds like it is coming from the center console near the stick.

If it was the tranny, why would it only do it between 80-85 mph? The sound is evident in both 4th, 5th, and 6th gear at that speed (motor is too loud in 3rd at that speed). Plus I'm damn sure it's coming from the front of the car since the sound is more audible if you lean closer to the windshield. Hmmm...

Not sure about coming from the front of the car since I'm not familiar with the noise, but other possible suspects are driveshaft or rear diff whine, especially since throttle tip in/tip out turns it on and off.
Noises can be tricky since they can travel or resonate through the body, or if there's a "hole" it'll sound like it's coming from there rather than the actual origin. I don't think it's alternator or other Front End Accessory whine since it's dependent on wheel speed and not engine speed but who knows.

Have you noticed flashing blue lights as well? Maybe they just can't keep up!

its most likely to be the throttle body opening slightly when u press lightly on the gas pedal

i have it too, on 6th gear at around 3000-3200 rpm...a slight tip on the pedal at that speed makes it...
if the car was over that..and u let go and it comes to that mark u dnt hear it unless u keep ur foot very lightly pressed steady on that exact speed...

it also happens on 2nd gear at a low rpm..around 2000-3000...

god only knows the answer though....
but most likely throttle body..no worries...

I have it in 4th, 5th and 6th and it was louder when I had the plastics and spare out of the trunk. I am almost positive it's the diff.

No problems here, have heard the noise many times, it wines all the way through the 100's - just gets a little more noticable for extended periods at high speeds.

60k + always have had noise , no problems. 03z.
