Yet another 5,000 mile plus oil change on 7/09/07 with a positive result. The VQ really likes Amsoil 0W-30, I noticed a lot smoother and quicker revs. I will switch back this next swap. See UOA below.

I can't believe I never saw this thread. It's similar to what I started in the Engine/Drivetrain forum.

Someone posted a RP 5W-30 UOA from their engine on the first page, and it looks as bad as the one I have from another user. I'll take the results and make an average between the two and update the comparison charts in the sticky. The RP 5W-30 just doesn't look very good in the VQ.

The Profesional: thanks for posting all your UOA's. I'll add the TSO to the comparison charts as well. For some reason, your TSO sample doesn't look as good as the average results so far. It's a nice sample, but the Fe and Copper are both high for TSO. The RP 10W-30 really started to get nice with a few more miles on the engine compared to your first sample. You've a got a great running chart going on engine oils. Have you thought about going with Schaeffer's 5W-30 or M1 0W-40? Both are cheaper than the Amsoil with similar or better results. Thanks again for the data.

I read what he does.. there is a point of diminishing return when it comes to oil changes...

There are certain key procedures during an oil change that if done incorrectly can cause fatal engine harm, any ONE of those can happen by chance and the more often you open yourself to that window, the more likely you will create a problem that would not exist if you were on a regular schedule.

For instance;

Over-tightening the oil drain plug or oil pan threads causing excessive wear and failure.

Over-tightening the oil filter or oil filter receiver threads causing excessive wear and failure.

Forgetting to remove the plastic ring off the oil container cap and letting it fall into your engine.

Using a dirty funnel and allowing foreign particles to be poured with the oil into the engine.

Leaving objects in the engine bay while closing the hood causing immediate damage or they come loose while driving and falling into the belt.

Having the car fall off the ramp or jack stand crushing or killing you.

All of these are potentially bad.

I swapped fluids today, after 8,000 miles since my last swap on Royal Purple 10W-30. I added 1 quart at 5,000 miles.

I drained 3 quarts plus the filter and a 4 ounce sample. I'm not sure I will send out for the test this time.

I switched to Royal Purple 5W-30 and added 1/2 quart Lucas SYNTHETIC oil stabilizer.

I drove all afternoon and I can tell a difference in engine response and noise. Lucas stabilizer claims to minimize oil consumption and eliminate cold startup wear as well as engine noise. So far this is the best feeling solution, we will see how this goes in May before Zdayz when I change out next.
