i have a 6 speed

ive been reading up about differential and transmission oil

however i thought that manual tranmission cars do not need transmission oil?

am i wrong?

do i need to change both my differential and transmission oil?

at what miles should i change it?

manual trans definitely has oil.

If you're upgrading to synthetic I'd wait until you have at least 5k miles so everything's broken in. Then replace trans and diff fluid at the same time, its easier that way. (not literally simultaneously, I just mean change them both while your car is lifted)

After that synthetic should go 60k miles easy...

do you recommend any special type of synthetic oil?

 

I'm happy enough with Redline MT-90 (~4 quarts) for manual trans, and redline 75W-90 (~2 quarts) (for limited slip diff) . There are plenty of brands that should work fine... royal purple, mobil1, amsoil... all well-known synthetics

make sure you're using the right type of oil (see link in my signature, top 100 questions thread) for correct fluid types.
