Default Question About Clutch/ Flywheel

Hi,

Rescently my slip light has been turning on and i get loss of power. I went to Nissan and they said my clutch is slipping. The quoted my at 1.2k to fix it with a flywheel

My question is.. is it necessary to change the flywheel? Also I went to Performance Nissans website and found prices for a Nissan clutch and flywheel. Is that all i need? or can i just replace the clutch disk, and what about the pressure plate

I know I am a noob with these things, i dont know my stuff I just like to drive the car and apparently the previous owner liked to ride the clutch or w/e

If u do in fact have a clutch problem, everything needs to be new or reconditioned. Stock flywheels are machined to true the face and and create a new surface for a good mate to the new disc. Pressure Plates in time loose their ability to engage/unengage true and square to the Disc/Flywheel and need to be replaced or reconditioned. Throwout Brgs get sloppy and loose their Lube which causes noise and eventual failure--They will just fall apart.

Now, the fact is, I dont know how machinable the stock F/W is because it is of a dampened design. I dont know because people as a rule go with an After market Fly wheel on the Zs. The cost of machinining a standard F/W is about 25.00.

Whatever u do ----Yes, the clutch assy has to be replaced as a unit. No cutting corners here

if you floor it in 5th or 6th gear does engine RPM increase without an increase in vehicle speed?

if it doesn't then your clutch is not slipping. the dealer's diagnosis sounds suspicious to me. loss in power means the engine is cutting fuel or air because it thinks you're losing traction. check your tire pressures, tire pressure sensors, and wheel speed sensors.

When you turn off the VDC/TCS, does the car have any symptoms???
