Default Interior Illumination Failure !! HELP

Can anyone help please (My car is now out of Warranty!!!!!)

Basically, one day, the interior lamp brightness appeared to be a lot dimmer than usual. The next day, they would not work at all, along with everything else listed above.

I also had a moment during a journey where the lamps illuminated on their own for about 2secs (like a diagnostic self test), but then went off again. This seemed to happen every 5mins (approx).

The following features no longer work!!!!!: -

Interior lights
Boot Light
Buzzer o/p signal (for lights on/door open)
Turn Indicator Signal on IPK
Headlamp (Low/High beam) Signal on Instrument Pack (combination meter)
Instrument Pack (combination meter) brightness adjustment
Door switch signal?
Day/Night switch for Trip Computer Binnacle (Triple meter) brightness (when driving light are turned on)
Trip distance on IPK resets with each ign-off. The total accumulated odo is however fine (I assume because it’s stored in EEPROM).
Trip Computer binacle always defaults back t the clock at each key cycle.
Side lights (Position lights?) now stay on when normal dipped beam driving lights are on (Low beam).
All 3 sets of lamps (Side/Dipped/Full) are on when Full is selected.
Wing Mirror heater may not be working – not confirmed.

I’m was hoping it was something simple like a fuse or module reset required, but I can’t find any fuses blown (not tried all yet - any reccomendations?) and i've disconnected the battery to reset the modules. It's like a switched power feed is missing, as everything resets!

From the list of faults above, they look mainly like features that are transmitted from the “BCM” module and received by the “Unified Meter and A/C amp” module? Therefore, I assume it’s one of these two modules at fault!? Or maybe the IPDM?

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Regards,
Ade

Sounds as though u have a bad ground somewhere in the system---Start Hunting. What u can do is maybe run a continuity test on the ground side of ur failed components

Check you Body Control Module (BCM). I believe there might be a TSB on it:

Hmmm. Job for the wknd.
BCM replacement sound pricey as the module will also need to be re-coded to my keys etc..

The more I can Diagnose myself, the less the stealer has to do.
I'm hoping they'll do it under warranty (even though it's 28days late!).

I'm not entirely sure if the dealer treats TSBs like recalls, but in any case, find the technical sheet of the TSB from Nissan, print it out and bring it to the dealer. That way there's no way they can say they don't see it in their system (had that happen before).

Argue with them that it's a known defective part, until they replace it for free.

Mirror fuse was fine on mine, instrument cluster or gauges were not working at all, turns out it was the fuse 2nd or 3rd to the bottom left. 10A

The Cause: I'm a dumbass.... I had hardwired my X50 to my rearview homelink mirror. The suction cups fall off occasionally, leaving my x50 dangling. I didnt drive the car for 4 days, so I guess it was enough time and heat to unravel the electrical tape and come off. So I went to rewire and somehow shorted the system. All hell broke loose after that, I couldnt find the proper fuse. Went to service manual, etc.. tried a lot of things, then 4 hours later I did what I should have done from the start. Taken every fuse out, and checked every single one. Anyways, learned from this one... almost had a heart attack too, didn't want to take it to the dealer.

Default Have the BCM problem with my '03, Lights, Will dealer fix for free?

I followed the direction on the Trouble TSM03-110 or similar guide, open both doors, disconnect (-) for 5 minutes, then reconnect, and now interior lights work as expected, but both windows are dropped 1/2 inch.

According to the Service Trouble guide. 03-001, this is a known issue.

Will a Nissan dealer replace an out-of-warranty BCM if it is a known issue?

Sounds like Nissan should eat the cost on this one. I don't want to keep disconnecting my battery every time I want my dome lights to work.

I am gonna call and argue that this is unacceptable if it comes to that point.
I see that the BCM is right under the fuse panel at the driver side kick, not that hard to get to. They might not want to since they have to re-code keys and what not, but I will call dealer after dealer until I can get one to cover this kind of malfunction as a warranty item.
