My fix for the lack of a hatch pop inside the cabin...
Do you really NEED to pop the hatch with the car turned on? If it IS turned on, odds are pretty good that the keys (and the Fob) will be right there with you in the ignition.
Isn't there a place on /under the stabilizer bar in the back hatch area that opens the hatch without being in back, with the car on, without the fob? I seem to remember something about that the day I picked up my car.

Yes, there is a pull out wire type thing that is by the strut bar that does that.

Webtoker,
Any reputable car audio/alarm installation company should be able to interface either an internal button to the hatch pop selenoid or install a second aftermarket selenoid and wire that to a button.

Actually, I think this is a glaring error in the Z. I have frequently had to pop the trunk while the key was still in the ignition with the engine on. Let's say you drop your friend off and he has to get his bag from the back, or recently when I went to Foxwoods and the security guard wanted to check the contents of the trunk. I had to either stop the car and push the button, or get out of the car and hit the license plate button. For those unfamiliar with that button (everybody but Z drivers), they'll never figure it out.

Or perhaps you could read mine?
My point was that you could have an internal button release put inside of the car WITHOUT having to install a full blown alarm system. It would be cheaper and would not have to deal with the hassle of a full alarm system. It could also be integrated into a factory style button near the VDC turnoff or by the heated seats switches.

For the time being I'm quite happy with the factory Nissan alarm. I'll probably look for a multicar option in the future for my fiance's Maxima and my Z.
I was noticing while popping the hatch that the button is not mechanical, it is electrical. With that in mind, it would be pretty easy (i'm betting) to tie in a switch directly to the trigger wire coming from that switch. The other option would be to find the trigger wire coming from the factory alarm (probably in behind the right kick panel) and tie to it. Even though the factory alarm release does not work while the key is on, the trigger wire would most likely still work if signalled individually.
