Torque Wrenches
Hey Guys,
Need to repair and install a few things and I deleted my old thread about this so, whats everyones opinion on a good torque wrench (need ft pounds) ?
and I have another torque wrench currently, but I left it set . Is it possible if I leave it back set at 0 for a while the spring will loosen back to normal ?
Thanks

Craftman makes a reasonably priced wrench and easy to replace if u have probs with it. Personally I wouldnt be very conserned about the wrench u want to bring back to Zero.
I may get flamed but after using them for 35+ yrs I know a little. Torque is not mystifying. A couple Lbs off is not crucial, main thing is, for example with head bolts or Mains or Rods is consistancy through out the sequence.--Balance.
Keep in mind that a Head bolt is not torqued to X amount of FtLbs because it is a head bolt. Its torqued to X amount of FtLbs because it is a particular size and Grade of Head Bolt. And that is the torque that that Bolt is designed to take.

Yeap, get a Craftsman - they go on sale pretty regularly and you can pick them up for $50 to $60 depending on the sale.
Once deformed, the spring is not going to go back on it's own. A least not without some heat treatment or other process. It would be cheaper to buy a new one than to fix the old one.

if you want to check your wrench, look for a PMEL in your area and see if you can make a friend to test it
here are places that are hiring, stands to reason you could get cheched if you live near one.
