Default horn?

My horn never work since I had the car, I bought the car used 2 days ago. When I lock the car with the key fob the horn does work, but when I push down on the steering wheel it does nothing, and when open the door without using the key/key fob, it doesn't work neither. Any idea?

ya i mean use simple trouble shooting.

if i had to bet, i would say start with the fuse, although i have never had a car blow the horn fuse. check it anyways..

if it is blown, go to autozone and get a 5 pack of 15 amp fuses. Put a new fuse in and start the car... hit the horn. Does it work? if yes then your problem is solved.

If it still does not work check the new fuse you just put in. If it is blown, then you have a short somewhere along the line to your horn. Check the wires and make sure they are not touching each other anywhere along the line. also check for frayed or poor quality wires.

If the fuse is not blown, then the next step would be to check the horn itself. get a continuity tester and have a buddy hold down the horn. make sure that the positive lead is receiving power. If it is not then there is something wrong somewhere down the line in the wires.

If it is receiving power, then your horn has died and you will need some new ones.

might i recommend... http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...ode=Z33JP-HRNS

just to make sure, you don't push on the center of the wheel do you? the horn switch is at the 6 O'clock position.

Thanks guys, what baffles me is the fact that it works when I hit the key fob but that was the only time it works.

Since you bought the car used, there is no telling what the first owner may have had done to the car.

In my case, while we were in the process of building my motor, I had the steering colomn disconnected from the steering rack. This allowed the steering wheel to turn freely. Problem was that it was turned too many times while disconnected, and it broke the spiral cable (a cable link in the steering column that allows the steering wheel to turn without binding wires).

The spiral cable is designed to allow for turning of the wheel of course, but only a few times, which is all you need when connected to the steering rack.

To make a long story short, my horn only would not work at first. It would still work when locking the doors via keyfob, but not via the steering wheel. Later on, my air bag and cruise control stopped working.

If you discover the fuses to be fine, you may want to investigate the spiral cable.

thanks for the info, the car is going back into the garage today so that should give me some time to look at it.

Why would it be the fuse if the horn works when using the key fob ???
Must be the switch on the steering. Was the car ever in an accident with the air bags deployed ?

Just want to clear up some information as I dissembled my steering wheel today to solve a horn issue. the horn switch is not at the 6 O'clock position, the switch position is at the top of the steering wheel at 12 O'clock. This is on a 2003 model though so i suppose the position could be different on later models or g35s.

Should I not bump old threads? I just wanted to make sure that those who actually do use the search function don't get bad information

So I know it's an old thread, but since it's been bumped. My horn chirps when I lock the car and when the car is off, but when I turn the car on it doesn't work. Last summer, I changed the relay with a new one from Nissan because it didn't work at the time either and it didn't fix the issue (it still chirps and works when off but not on).
I never bothered to look more into it, but what would you guys recommend to do?
