Default My car will not start... HELP!

This started to happen about 4 months ago. It was a rare occurance when it happened back then, and now my car won't start at all.

The first time this happened, I had to give the key a turn 3 times till it worked, then it was fine for a month, but as time progressed, it now occurs randomly about 1-3 times a week. I've already brought it to the dealer, and they don't know what is the problem because it's somewhat intermitant and it's hard for them to re-duplicate the problem. They checked my chips in my Keys and they say signals works fine. Right now my car doesn't start I've tried starting it 5 times... and I guess I got to try it again or call a tow-truck...

Another problem (not sure this might be all related) my Fuel Guage reads Empty when I know I have 1/2 or 3/4 tank left.... The Nissan dealership doesn't know whats the problem with that either. I have done the Re-call order to my car already in Februaray (fuel line/pump recall '06).

The end result after Nissan kept my car for four days, they couldn't find the source of any of these problems. They said they are going to replace my Fuel Pump, and they "think" that's the main problem.

ANYONE else have suggestions???? My car is only 3 years old with 37k miles on it. (2003 enth) The only mods I've done is suspension, and left the engine 100% stock. I haven't replaced the spark plugs, because they said it's good for 100k miles, but I'm pretty sure that the Nissan Dealership checked if that was the problem...

Thanks a million

Do you have anything else on the key chain, such as a SpeedPass, that may be interfering with the key's signal?

Speedpass would not interfere with the key's signal.

A faulty fuel pump wouldn't have anything to do with the gauge cluster reading wrong. It could be the fuel sender, but not the pump. If Nissan didn't tighten things correctly, you could have a fuel leak which may cause an issue with starting (assuming the leak is large enough). Does the engine crank or what when you try to start it?

Looks like they'll be able to duplicate the problem now... Could be anything from the ECM to just a short.

If you say so. I don't see why something that is totally inactive would mask the signal from the key. If you say it can happen, then I have learned something new today.

Well thx for the responses:

1. The only thing next to my key is the key FOB. No other electrical or magnatized objects.
2. I can hear it crank but "No Go" on the engine, tried it 3 times in a row, then once again after 5 mins, then again after 4 hours. The car started when I armed the car and unarmed it (Dealer's keyless entry system), not sure if that was just luck or not.
3. I just dropped my car off again at the dealer, I'll update with the visit
4. I hope they give me a g35 rent-a-car.

I don't have hat key but my Firebird did, and from what i understand it is just a resistor in the key and not a chip. Is the 350 the same way or is it actually a chip?

I wonder if your keyless entry is the "key" to the problem?? If it started after you used it, maybe there is an issue with it where it is not allowing the car to start.

Haha very funny, and ironic.

Nissan Service Manager called just now and stated, "For the "No Start Condition" they believe it's my key." My main key wasn't "firing" off right (signal was intermitant); not sure why they didn't catch it the first time I bought it there... But that's one problem solved.
***by the way, a new key is not covered under my "Gold Perferred" warrenty so I have to pay out of pocket for the Key ($60) and the Inspection ($150)*** doesn't that just suck

For the 2nd problem (fuel gauge reading zero on a 1/2 tank) they still are going to replace my fuel pump, so won't know till 2 days from now. ***Free rent-a-car and free labor/parts, that was covered)

about your comment about water in the tank

I do recall one time I went through a car wash with the gas tank open (not fully exposed), but if that is the case.. isn't water more dense than oil?

(Density: Gasoline 740kg/m3 vs. Water (25 °C) 998kg/m3)

Wouldn't the water have been used up already if it sat at the bottom of the tank?

But thx for that reminder ^^

Usually the fuel pump and the level sending unit are combined into one fuel pump module, and that is probably what the dealer is replacing.

Wasn't sure whether to respond to this thread or you'r original one, hehe. My Z has done this from brand new (2004), will take 3 times to start, just when it feels like it. No rhyme nor reason to when and where at all. It did it before had the aftermarket alarm put in, and still does with the after market alarm, so if the same thing, might not be your key fob, might just not have occured again since your new key fob. From what I've seen on a few 350 forums, this isn't a unusual occurance. Sorry I don't know what the fix is.

Yep - mines a 2004 and I have this problem too. Seem to only do it every now and then. Takes 3-4 tries and then eventually starts.

No Start Condition:

- They tested my signal on my 2 keys, and the main key I use, was sending out a bad signal (per dealer), they replaced my key (this was not covered under my "gold warrenty" so it I had to pay out-of-pocket $85 for the new key & $150 for the inspection.

- So far - it's been a week and I haven't had the "no start" problem, but my car did make this weird digital noise "beeeeeeeeeeep" from the gauge area when I had the new key for the 1st time... oh well, *crosses-fingers*

- EDIT - my "no start" happened again after 2 weeks, but I've found a way to fix it.
1. If I notice the alarm (OEM) red light (on the dash board) on when I put in my key (go to step 2)
2. just pull out and insert key or arm and re arm the car, till the red light doenst stay on when you insert the key and it should start, I guess from reading forums this is a 03-04 problem and also with 03-04 g35's and FX's

Fuel Gauge:

- They replaced my fuel pump, not sure if they did both or just one, but it was free and covered under the "Gold Warrenty" So far I haven't had the Fuel Gauge problem again

Thank you for all the replies to this post - I hope this was somewhat informative to others.
