Is 244HP the problem?
Saw dyno numbers from some guys around 244HP. My 96 T/A has a custom intake and LT1 and generates enough tork to get new tires humming, my 72 Chevelle SS is big block and can melt 'em. When I punch the Z (auto) from a start, it just doesn't have the punch that warrants a 287HP rating from Nissan. Can't get any tire roll. Haven't braked torqued a car since my MG in high school. Shouldn't have to. What's wrong? Comments?

2. VDC
3. THe Z is very well balanced, unlike FRONT heavy Amercan cars
4. the Z has MUCH better suspension as well (decrease wheel spin, remember, wheel spin on the track is BAD)
5. the Z has less torque
btw, I haev driven an F1 360 modena quit a bit, it would KILL any american car (stock) except the Z06, it doesn't brake traction very easy either.

your a moron, when i want to i can fish tail my Z and burn out like no other, just because you cant do it doesnt mean the car cant, also if you wanted to do that maybe you should have got a 6 speed
hey XBS spare me the moron crack. way off base and inappropriate. trying to stimulate some discussion here. some good points and i understand. i had seen previous posts where guys were claiming tire spin (auto/traction control off) and rubber going into second gear. I don't get that so I wanted to get some responses. Not complaining, just asking for feedback. only powertrain complaint I have is when the tranny seems to hunt for a gear around 5-6k and gear change is slooooow.

3.5 6 cylinder is nothing like your big 8's. torque is what gets a burnout from a start.
I assume the guys that are chirping the tires in 2nd have manual trannies. just get on and off the clutch fast and flooring it should get a chirp. unless you're refering to power-induced slides in 2nd gear in the middle of a turn. It's possible in an auto but more difficult since it's harder to modulate the power.

I was also a little shocked that my 6spd will not spin the tires. After my break in period of 1200 miles,My Z will not break the tires loose under it's own power without dumping the clutch.I had a 93 Trans Am 6spd,275 horse and would light the tires up at will?I am starting to think my car is down on power?
i can spin the tires with TCS off for about 10 feet in first. i get spin into second, and occasionally, third. use the manual mode. to test, keep the TCS on and watch for the slip light between shifts. that should tell you when the tires are losing grip.
I too have a 5AT Z and could light up the tires in 1st. You know the stock tires dont make any screeching sound. So you probably dont hear it. But I sometimes go side ways. I had a 94 Cam Z28 LTI 275hp auto(325lbs torque at 2000rpm). My Z still leaves more rubber because of the gearing.
