Default Biggest Mistake Ever!!!

I own a 2006 350z and it had dashboard rattles from day 1. I thought that I could live with them since they werent that loud but then they only got worse. I narrowed the rattle down to the vent between the windshield and the rest of the dashboad and took it to the delaership to see if they could fix. The delarship told me that the only way to fix the rattle was to replace the whole damn thing. My car has been at the shop for 27 days. When I went to pick up the car I was horrified. There are gaps big enough to drive a freight train through, and worst of all, I had new rattles that were louder than what I started off with. I took the car back of course.

The love I have for my car has diminished greatly. I feel like I drive a POS 1975 sports car vice a brand new modern sports car. I have no choice but to keep letting the delaership fix it till they get it right but the more I let them touch my car the more I dont want it back because I feel like they are striiping away whatever structural integrity it may have left. From the quick overlook I did when last I checked on my car I noticed they had scratched up the aluminum trim on the steering wheel and damaged the passanger airbag cover. Only God knows what else they will destroy and have to replace before this madness is all over.

If you have rattles dont take it to the delership to get it fixed. Try to fix by yourself or else by the time they get done with it you may not want you car anymore.

I have called Nissan corporate to complain about this. I highly doubt they will do anything for me for rattles but I have a file number anyway. I just wish they could work out a deal with me, take my rattle-box off my hands and give me a new one. I just wish my slate could be wiped clean and we could start all over again (Nissan and me).

Sorry for the long post guys. I just needed to talk.

My 03 has been tight as a drum since I bought it 4 years ago. Always surprises me when I see the rattle posts. Guess it is the luck of the draw.

I'm a firm believer that if you're not one of those guys tearing the dash apart every week to paint/carbon fiber it, etc., you wont get any rattles. I've noticed in my other cars that there were never rattle issues 'till i ripped out things to install wiring for speakers, stereo etc. I'm leaving my interior stock, not a single rattle now, and i'm not looking to make any.

I feel for ya, I've dealt with the same type of things on other cars, take it to the douchbagship only for them to return it to you with stains and missing bolts, then when the mechanic comes out to put some bolts in they are differnt sizes and colors but 'fit'. I do as much as I can on my own because I am smarter and will do a better job than 90 percent of those assclowns. Now I have had awesome service from actual shops, it just seems that dealers mechanics are the worst, only good for changing oil and replacing spark plugs in my book.

I had the same type of rattles in mine. All i did was take about 3 or 4 black rubber stoppers (home depot or Lowes) and cut them in half and then i just wedged them between the front winshield and the top of the dash (spread them out along the whole dash). And that fixed the dash from rattling. When i first noticed the rattles i started to put all kinds of things in different places to see if it stopped the rattle, but after doing this i realized it was the whole freakin dash! Hope this works!!

I really wish I tried your suggestion before I took my car to the dealership. They took the whole dashboard our, put another one in, and now the rattles are louder and are not coming from the top of the dash any more. I cant even pin-point where they are coming from now. They basically have f**ked up my car. Also the dash peices just dont fit like they used to anymore. I will take pics later so you guys can see what I am talking about.

I took my dash apart to take care of a rattle. I used cushion material and sticky back foam rubber. Then put it back together. When I finished the ordeal I now had 2 rattles.

Lesson learned: leave the dash alone.

The rattle problem is something many Z owners have complained about since 2003. The fact is, the interior is made of cheap 1980's camero style plastic. The car is sporty and powerful, but the interior is cheap in comparison to other cars in or above its class...and thats how Nissan can turn a profit selling a sports car for bottom $.

I've had the rattle in my 04 since day 1, seems to only act up in the mornings, or cold days. Doesn't really bother me, I just crank up some TOOL and go speed on the freeway.

Haha that doesnt make any sense to me for them to just put in another dash. But for sure try the rubber stoppers i can drive down a road with construction with the radio off and still no rattles.

Good thing you didn't go to the dealership I bought my car. They would have charged you $100.oo per day "Storage" fee.

No rattles in my 28K-mile 2005 -- well, except for my sunglasses in the overhead glasses compartment.
